Bloggers Helping Bloggers

in Blogging + Social Media,Writing

I love blogging. In fact, if someone wants to buy me a t-shirt that says that, I’ll wear it. I often profess my love of blogging and today is no different.

Oh blogging, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

  1. I love writing. Excuse me. I love writing what I like to write when I like to write it.
  2. I love having my own little online world that reflects me (design, content, widgets).
  3. I love working on WordPress. Yes, you read that right.
  4. I love fiddling around behind the scenes and will even dabble in code if it works out in my favor.
  5. I love data and analytics.
  6. I love reading comments knowing that someone took the time to read and leave feedback.
  7. I love meeting the people behind the blogs.
  8. I love interacting with people on Twitter, getting to know their personality, and then connecting with their blog.
  9. I love learning about blogging.
  10. I love discovering companies that get blogging.

Shall I go on? I don’t think so. I think you get the point. I’m sure you have many of the same feelings or else you wouldn’t be blogging in the first place (assuming that the majority of people that read my blog probably have a blog of their own).

I have to re-emphasize, though, that the coolest part of blogging is the people. You ask a question? You get an answer. You need some help? You get advice. Having a bad day? You get a hug. Bloggers help other bloggers. Am I right?

But wouldn’t it be great if we could single out some bloggers we admire – bloggers who are great writers, bloggers who make people laugh, bloggers who have incredibly high traffic, bloggers who get technology, bloggers that work with the media – and get them to let us in on some of their secrets?

In case you have never taken the time to read my About Me page (what? you haven’t?), I’ll sum it up for you. I’m experienced in writing, technology, and marketing. And generally, I like to share what I know. I’m willing to bet that there are lots of other people out there that want to do the same. It may not occur to them. Or they may not have the right outlet.

Here’s where I come in. I want to start a series called Bloggers Helping Bloggers and feature a Q&A session with these wunderkinds. What I need from you is this:

Good idea? Yes or No.

What do you want to learn about the most?

Who should I put on my list to hound until they agree?

Leave me a comment. Email me. Tweet me. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and while you’re at it, maybe you can help send me to the Type A Mom conference this month. Me like learning. Me like sharing. I wrote a post, Confessions of a Blog Conference Attendee, and entered for a chance to win a ticket to attend the conference. If you like my post, please vote for me over at Blog Conference Newbie (it’s a simple click).

I LOVE blogging, too. Can’t get enough. While I’m not numbers-driven, the numbers help, right? I guess my frusteration is that when my schedule gets busy and I’m not able to get out and comment, it seems that my comment numbers take a big hit that takes several weeks of consistent work to get back up. I know I’m not a bad blogger…what could be up?

First of all, numbers don’t always matter. If you are writing mostly for yourself, it’s nice to have people come and read and comment. But if there is a reason you truly *want* traffic, you do have to keep up consistency more than frequency. If I take more than a few days off, I lose traffic too. Consider the times when you know you will be busy and consider getting some guest posters!

I’m always consitent with posting (I pre-write almost everything, so it’s not hard), but commenting can obviously only be done when I’m available!

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Oh, and bloggy friends have helped with non-bloggy stuff, too! Evolving Mommy taught me how to make homemade bread via her blog and a lot of emails back and forth with breadmaking questions and answers!

Bloggers are just awesome people I guess. I know @evolvingmommy is :)

    I voted!

I think it’s a great idea. Since I’m starting a WordPress blog, I would like to read more advice. I did learn a little behind the scenes stuff over at Blogger, but WordPress seems to be kicking my butt.

I would also be interested in reading about how other bloggers go about marketing themselves. Since my new blog is going to be more aimed at featuring products and businesses and I have zero experience in that.

Thank you, dahling, for the vote (you can always vote again until Tuesday). WordPress is a big beast especially if you are intimidated by under-the-covers kind of stuff. It helps to know what messes things up permanently and what is fixable. I think it takes the fear factor out.

As for marketing, it’s something I want to focus a little more on since I have experience in that area. In the meantime, if you aren’t already, you should check out Adventuroo’s blog where she now has Momcomm Mondays. http://www.adventuroo.com

This sounds like a great idea. I still have so much to learn and sometimes just don’t even know where to begin.

    I also voted.

I love that series idea. I’m always interested in what makes bloggers tick and what makes them successful – not just successful in the traditional sense, like Pioneer Woman, but what each blogger considers a success.

I’m also interested in more technical advice for the non-tech types to help us get the most out of our blogs.

Kirsten – you got the concept exactly. We all aren’t going to be the Pioneer Woman. But we can all have our own form of success. It just depends on what we want. Hope to start this in the next few weeks!

I am going to the Type A conference too. I would love to read an interview with Life with Kaishon. I love here site.http://kaishon.blogspot.com/

    Stopping from SITS!

Thanks for stopping over! Tell me what you like about Life with Kaishon? Is it the person behind the blog? The writing? The photos? I always like to know what really attracts people to different blogs.

I don’t know a blogger that doesn’t like to learn more about other bloggers. It feels good to get to know the people that truly understand and love what you understand and love. There are so many bloggers that do amazing things.

I would love to hear about bloggers posting schedules (if they have any). Do successful bloggers have a set schedule for topics, or maybe set topics but not set days for the topics, or do they write as things come to them?

Also I wouldn’t mind hearing about how bloggers find the time to maintain their blog and all of the required extras. (twitter, commenting, communities, facebook, etc…)

  • Lifewithoutpink

I think this is a great idea! I love learning and getting other people’s point of view. Look forward to it! Oh and I voted for you!

I would love it and would participating. I’m thinking of moving to WordPress and would love to have a community to reach out to.

    I love blogging too!
