The Fun, Faces, Fotography of Bloggy Boot Camp

I know. I spelled photography wrong. But my alliterative post title wouldn’t have worked otherwise. I gave you the quick and dirty version on Monday as to why I love-hate Bloggy Boot Camp (hint: it’s really all about the love). But what I didn’t get to do was name drop, I mean, share my lovely photographs of the entire weekend.

Philadelphia was our host city and I don’t think I could have had a more lovely view. And the weather and the cheesesteaks and all the lovely ladies from around that area? Yeah, I might be moving to Philly.

Unfortunately, the whole weekend was a blur.

Okay. Not really.

The weekend started with a reunion of my bloggy buddies from the Baltimore Bloggy Boot Camp. I have to admit that a lot of the awesomeness of the weekend was due to my completely and totally fabulous roomies, Sunday and Daune. And a lot of baked goods. And wine. And blinky rings.

And because we were so cool, Dianna crashed in our room. Every. Night. Can’t you see the coolness?

P.S. I didn’t mind one tiny bit even though it kept me from enjoying a whole bed to myself.

P.P.S. Yes, they are nuts.

And my favorite quirky character, Megan. She should have her own sitcom. With no one else. Just Megan.

And then we met Ted and instantly fell in love with him. But I swear, it had nothing to do with him buying the first round. Absolutely nothing. (Nice blinky ring, Sunday).

And off we trotted to Triumph Brewing Company for dinner. I think we were in the old part of town or something. While everyone ate and drank, I ended up outside for quite sometime hugging a homeless man. Long story. For another time. But definitely one that needs to be told.

Also? They had weird unisex bathrooms.

I got to meet fabulous new ladies like Lynn and reunite with others like Trina, who I think might be stalking me (we keep running into each other at these conferences). I know her eyes are closed but she’s kind of adorable anyway.

I glued myself right next to Daune for dinner and didn’t even notice that fab necklace until now. And peeking out? The gratuitously friendly Amy who makes for an awesome driving companion (and apparently therapist).

Side note: If you ever take a long car trip with me, you need to know 2 things. First, I never shut up. Second, I will probably end up sharing my entire life story. From start to finish. You’ve been warned.

Wow, Sunday has another drink in her hand. And Dianna? We all just wanted to take that deep-fried, bourbon-drinking, Kentucky girl, put her in our pocket, and take her home with us.

We did actually do some learnin’. We kicked off Saturday morning with a great line up of speakers but as we were being ushered to sit, I couldn’t resist a picture of Daune with Julie. WITH HER HAT. But in my mind, she’s still Dutch.

Look! See? We’re sitting at tables with notepads and computers. We’re talking and learning. I swear!

Okay. Time to get serious. Tiffany kicked things off. And one of my favorite presentations was from Cynthia, the Nap Warden. She forced us all to put our heads on our desk and quietly take a nap. (not really, but it was so what I was hoping for).

Resources from Cynthia’s presentation can be seen here: Blog Design Resources

In the afternoon, the “veteran” bloggers got together in a circle of love. We sang Kumbaya, held hands, and braided each others hair.

In reality, we all reintroduced ourselves and talking about our biggest blogging questions and challenges today. It was very hard for me to sit that still and quiet for so long. But it was fun to be able to admit how far my blog has come since the Bloggy Boot Camp I attended in Baltimore.

Now, if you’re sick of pictures and of seeing my face, stop reading now. Here is where I go all name-droppy.

Me and Cecily K. Cecily presented on how to find your voice and keep it authentic. Even though we probably couldn’t be more different, I just thought she was totally amazing. In hindsight, I probably should have introduced myself before I insisted on a picture with her.

Me and Daune. Oh, she of triplets plus two. She who obsesses over chapstick. She of the constant state of dehydration. You, too, are a “complicated order,” my friend.

IYAMPAM. No, I’m not. She is. Pam, that is. That girl is whack (P.S. that’s a compliment).

And then there’s Megan. We all love Megan.

Me and Coma Girl (yes, she has a real name but you might have to be her BFF to learn it). And I have now finally listened to the song that inspired her name.

I got to meet the one person that everyone not going told me they wanted to me. The one, the only Life Without Pink! Just wish I had more time with her to chat.

Me and JulieBouf. I have to say it like that because for some reason, I can’t call her Julie. I have to call her JulieBouf.

Me and the Nap Warden. We’re tight. We’re buds. I hope she remembers who the hell I am.

Me and Lolli. I love her. She gave awesome photography tips and she has 5 kids. What?

Me and someone so adorable, I won’t even tell you her name. I’ll just tell you that she’s a mommy and she is STILL fabulous.

Hi Ted. Yes, I will start an OpenSky shop. Just don’t punch me. Or do anything else. I feel nervous.

And then there are the fabulous real life Charlie’s Angels: Tiffany, Kat, and Jill. (wait, Jill was actually the name of one of the original Charlie’s Angels).

Then I tried to crash and pretend like I could be the fourth angel. I’m pretty sure they were just humoring me.

Then Amy got a hold of my camera and revealed some of the true craziness.

In the end, I really had but one regret. I never got to ride those swan boats.

While I like to have fun, I do truly love the Bloggy Boot Camp atmosphere. I had a blast while meeting and reconnecting with some amazing bloggers. I’ve made sure that I added links on everyone’s name above so that you can check out their blogs and get to know them and love them like I do!

Most importantly, I learned a lot. If you have that OMG-I’m-too-scared-to-ever-go-to-a-conference, then this is the place to start. I promise you won’t regret it!

I was trying *really* hard not to be bummed to have missed this BBC. Then I saw all these great pics of my friends… and I’m crying. Damn you, Fadra!!
    ;)

Looks like you guys had a blast. Can’t wait to spend more than ten minutes in the lobby with you!!

YAY!! It’s perfect! I’m laughing so hard over here ….

And, I wanted to ride the swan boats, and the dragon boats in Baltimore, too.

    • Anonymous

We’ll find some crazy boats to ride in Boston. Promise.

  • Tanyat157

It looks like you had a lot of fun! I really hope to go to one next year, you know when my blog has been around for longer than 2 months!

    • Anonymous

Oh, who told you that you have to wait? I met a blogger who had been blogging for ONE MONTH and others that didn’t HAVE a blog yet!! The first rule of blogging is that you don’t have to have a blog. Okay, well, you do. But you don’t have to be an expert by any means!! It’s how I learned!

  • Lifewithoutpink

Girl this is fabulous! I love it!! Thanks for including me…. I wish we had more time to talk! You are super cool :)

    • Anonymous

Glad we got to meet. Any chance you are heading to any other conferences? Would love to connect again. If you’ll have me :)

  • Erica

    You are too funny…
    A) I totally agree about JulieBouf
    B) Dianna Kennedy is like a pocket-sized party. She is the awesome.
    C) Nail on the Head re: Best of Fates’ Megan. I love that she is super fun and so self assure… and admittedly awkward.
    D) I’m a little scared of Ted Rubin too. I’m afraid he’ll steal my charm.
    E) You are so stinkin’ photogenic. Seriously? Is there ever a bad picture of you!

It was so great to meet you… fabulous and funny recap!

    • Anonymous

      A) She is THE JulieBouf, forever and always.
      B) I want to buy a Dianna Kennedy and keep her on my desk to cheer me up.
      C) Megan is Megan and I love me an original.
      D) Ted Rubin doesn’t need any more charm. He’s overloaded.
      E) Here’s my biggest photography tip: DON’T EVER POST ANY BAD PICTURES OF YOURSELF. Then you will *always* look photogenic.

Like a little bobble-head? That would be a hoot.

“I want to buy a Dianna Kennedy and keep her on my desk to cheer me up.”

        hahahahahhaha- perfect.

Pocket sized party! Oh, I LOOOOVE this!! I think I may laugh all week …..

And, yes, Fadra is incredibly photogenic. However, there are some swanky sweet photos of you on the Flickr site that you need to steal.

Best Bloggy Bootcamp post EVA! I loved it!!! And I loved seeing you again!!

    • Anonymous

I know our paths will cross again and hopefully we will actually get a chance to sit down and chat. Or drink, at least.

  • http://www.betterinbulk.net/ Lolli

Such a fun recap! You collected quite a set of funny pictures there. For some reason the one that made me laugh the most was the 4th Charlie’s Angel. Maybe it’s your cute expression. I adore you!!

    • Anonymous

Aww, I love to be adored!! You are awesome but I still don’t understand the 5 kid thing. I was thinking about that yesterday. That’s a lot of time being pregnant. But you probably knew that.

I think those 3 ladies would let me be the smart sidekick, as long as I didn’t upstage them with my beauty.

  • Napwarden

Meeting you was certainly a highlight;) Was it you who suggested we make this a monthly thing? I’m SO in!!!!

    • Anonymous

MONTHLY, FTW!! Why can’t we just have a big publicly traded company called Blogging, Inc. We can all work there and have free childcare and extra women’s bathrooms so there is never a wait. Ahh, a girl can dream.

      Hope to see you again!

      • http://www.bestoffates.com Megan (Best of Fates)

Ooh – can my title be something like the Mistress of Awkward?

‘Cause I’ve always wanted to be a Mistress.

Not like a cheating-with-somebody’s-husband type mistress.

        Like a dominatrix Mistress.

        Only I’m not dominant enough.

Which is why I need this company idea to work.

For my Mistress Megan dreams to come true.

  • Scargosun

Great recap! Love all your pics.

Did I catch you in any of my pics? I think you might be in the table shot, huh? I guess I need to diversify next time. Thanks!!

  • http://www.iyampam.com Pammy Pam

    i peed myself.

    • Anonymous

Now THAT was exactly the reaction I was expecting.

  • JulieBouf

Thanks for the shoutout. I had so much fun hanging out. Ugh…that pic of me really needs some editing – in which my multiple chins disappear and do something with that forehead. UGH!!!

    • Anonymous

I should have warned you. As a rule, I don’t Photoshop. Not because we don’t all need some touch-ups. Just because I’m lazy. You look fine to me :)

  • http://twitter.com/xtremeparnthood Sunday Stilwell

I think I lost count of how many drinks I had Friday and Saturday night. They were just too yummy to pass up.
I had the best time with you, Daune, Dutch, and Dianna and we simply MUST get together again SOON!

    • Anonymous

Apparently, Dutch is planning some impromptu blogging “conference” in Charleston, WV. I’m pretty “conference” means “drinking.”

  • http://www.bestoffates.com Megan (Best of Fates)

    You are beyond sweet.

And I liked it so much I liked it before realizing I’m on my real-life Facebook account, and not just my blog account.

So that’s some pretty intense liking.

Also, we should totally hang out.

‘Cause I know you’re all about weird 20somethings in your daily life.

    • Anonymous

Your “personal” account? The one you don’t let crazy stalker fans onto because they might find you? No worries. I won’t publish your last name. Much.

  • http://www.motherhoodandme.com Sue Robinson

    So glad you had fun!

    • Anonymous

Would have been fun if you were there too! Plan for Boston and Atlanta. 2011, baby!!

  • http://www.comagirl.net/ Coma Girl

Very funny! And some great pictures :)

Not just saying that because you included me ;)

    • Anonymous

Was such a blast. Now. Let’s get that sis of yours in on the action.

  • http://www.stayathomebabe.blogspot.com Stay At Home Babe

Okay, just keepin it real: I hate all my fellow americans who are still in the states and can go to the stupid, fabulous conferences. Pout, pout, pout… with a little side of envious hate.

    • Anonymous

Don’t you uppercrust Brits have some sort of blogging comraderie where you sit around drinking tea and eating curly-wurlys? If not, let me know. We could make a killing over there.

  • http://twitter.com/SITSGirls Tiffany R

This makes me miss you all so much! I can’t believe its been over a week.

Oh Fadra, you crack me up. I just adore your sense of humor.

    You are the real deal.

Thank you so much for coming and bringing with you your energy and enthusiasm- I am just, well, grateful.

    xoxo

    • Anonymous

I know! Fastest week of my life. Such a great time and having just come from BlogHer, the difference are overwhelming. Different conference, different agenda, but this is the one that gave me the warm fuzzies.

      Love you!!

  • http://twitter.com/SugarJones Sugar Jones

I was feeling pretty okay about missing BBC in Philly. Until just now. Damn you Fadra.
    ;)

You guys look like you had a great time. As usual, those SITS Girls put on a great party!!

    • Anonymous

Save your money for airfare because we want you in Boston or Atlanta for BBC. If it wasn’t for a little discussion on blogging, I would have sworn it was just one big slumber party!

  • Anonymous

You’re SUCH a blogger now, Fadra.

    • Anonymous

      Thank you?

  • The Grasshoppa

First of all, you would have NOT had a bed to yourself, you would have had to a. share a bed with me. B. have the taco bed.

And second of all, we did ride the swan boats, remember? Right after we ordered a parka and a shhhicken. Or was that just a dream?

By the way, I LOST that necklace—now I have an inkling where it *might* have disappeared! ;)

    • Anonymous

If you’re first statement is true, then I’m pretty glad I shared with pocket-sized Dianna who curled herself up into a ball like a hedgehog.

Also, as a rule, I don’t sleep in or with tacos.

Ahhh, you and your chicken. I just laughed out loud remembering that night :)

  • http://twitter.com/dutchbeingme Julie

I love love love the photo montage. And I think I’ve finally come up with some sort of recollection that we were dancing. The other thing – how did I miss the swan boats. I *so* would have done that with you in the rain on Sunday. Just sayin. :)

So great to have met you — and can’t wait til we see each other again. YAY!

    • Anonymous

I waited for HOURS in the rain on Sunday for those boats but nobody ever showed up to unhitch them. I settled for a gigantic cheesesteak instead.

Aren’t you SOOOOO glad you came? Aren’t I SOOOO glad you came? Probably yes and definitely yes.

      Reunion tour. Coming soon!

  • http://twitter.com/BlogMamaAndrea Andrea W

Sigh, I love the city pics. That’s my hometown (I lived there for ten years until this year.) It looks like so much fun. I’m already stalking the closest BloggyBootCamp to Cincinnati.

  • Roo {NiceGirlNotes}

You are sickeningly photogenic and I a little bit hate you for it.

  • http://www.adventuroo.com Adventuroo

Such a fun re-cap! I have GOT to scoot my butt so a conference next year. HAVE TO!
