Saving the Earth, one piece of trash at a time

You know what floats my boat? When I get to do something I love and support really cool organizations at the same time. I already confessed that I was a nature girl so when TheMotherhood.com asked me if I’d like to be a State Leader for the B Kind 2 Earth Day project, I said yes!

And then I went to read what it was all about.

Because I just knew it would be cool. Turns out I was right. The details were as follows…

The Mission: To encourage people to promise to do at least one earth-friendly action on April 22, 2011 — and beyond.

The Overview: Make Earth Day count for you and your family this year!! In all fifty states on Earth Day, families will get outside, appreciate our planet and do good things for the Earth – and their collective actions are going to count, big time. B Kind 2 Earth Day is a project of Nickelodeon, the National Wildlife Federation, TheMotherhood.com and incredible bloggers and organizations across the country.

They weren’t kidding. I’m proud to be one of the North Carolina State Leaders along with some of my other favorite bloggers: @IlinaP @AndreaUpdyke @JaelDesignsInc @adventuroo @onemomsworld (among others).

But enough of the love fest. Let’s get down to what really matters. What can you do to be kind to the Earth? Focus on one day and carry it beyond. It’s an especially important message for me to share with my son.

And he’ll charm the socks off you when you see how he helped me celebrate.

And since TODAY is actually Earth Day, it’s not too late for you to make the pledge. Head over to the B Kind 2 Earth Day page on Facebook to make the pledge or to share what you’ve done.

I thank you and the Earth thanks you.

Thanks for inspiring me to go above and beyond on Earth Day this year. I wish I still had my NWF Earth Day t-shirt I bought in 1990 to celebrate the 20th anniversary!

I heard that Lowe’s is having a tree giveaway tomorrow. I’m gonna try to wrangle the kids and get down there early – we’ve been wanting a tree in our front yard since we moved in. Cross your fingers that I don’t hit a gas pipe while planting!
