When someone you love wears mom jeans…

in Beauty + Fashion

I have a confession to make. I used to wear mom jeans. The only problem is they weren’t called mom jeans. They were called “in style.”

That’s right. I’ve been alive long enough for high-waisted jeans to have actually been in style. I was around for acid washed jeans, pin striped jeans, and even pleated jeans. It was a dark time in our fashion history.

Nope. Still doesn't look cool

And this is why I take up the cause of fashion. The cause of helping women and moms everywhere understand that you don’t have to wear high-waisted jeans just because you’re on a budget or because you have hips that would put Beyoncé to shame.

I’ll admit that I don’t buy Seven Jeans. And I can admit that now that I actually know what Seven Jeans are. They are jeans that I really can’t afford and really couldn’t possibly fit into.

(And yes, I have plenty of friends that swear by them and tell me I just don’t get it because I’ve never had a pair of jeans that fit me like these can. Thanks, but I’d rather take my $150 elsewhere.)

So what’s a cheap frugal but somewhat stylish woman to do? Well, I decided to accept an offer to try on a new pair of jeans.

Levi’s is now taking its popular line launched in Asia last year and bringing it to the masses via Target. In the United States,  you can now purchase dENIZEN jeans at all Target stores.

I mean, what were they thinking? Who shops at Target these days? Oh yeah, that’s right. We all do.

So let’s just see what you might like about some Asian-inspired Levi’s for only $24.99…

What did you think? I’m guessing you thought one of the following:

“Wait, did she have her pants off in that video?”

“I like big butts and I cannot lie.”

“Those are really hot shoes.”

“Wow, she’s a bit, ahem, bigger than I thought.”

“Did she just scar her son for life?”

Pretty much, all of those statements are true. So I’m not offended if you thought any of those.

What I would like to know, though, is what you think of the jeans? What’s your diehard brand and why? Would you give these a shot?

UPDATE: If you like Denizen America on Facebook, you can receive an offer for a rebate, a gift card, or even FREE jeans when you sign up on the Welcome page. Word.

Disclosure: I was provided a complimentary pair of dENIZEN jeans to review at my leisure.

Love this! I have been on a mission against Mom Jeans, too.  This made me laugh.  I have actually found some DKNY jeans that I like — fit the “over 40 shape” (let’s just leave it at that) well and still look ‘hip’ (a must!)   Allie

Actually, I was wearing DKNY jeans before I tried these on. But I got them for super cheap at Ross. I don’t pay full price for anything!!

  • http://janasthinkingplace.com Jana Anthoine

Ooh, I’m gonna have to go check those out! I’m a Gap Long and Lean girl but these are similar and OMG THE PRICE!

    • Anonymous

So I found out they have coupons/deals for these jeans on their FB page so you should totally check it out. http://www.facebook.com/DenizenAmerica

I, however, wish I was long and lean ANYTHING.

      • http://janasthinkingplace.com Jana Anthoine

I’m gonna check that out. And you’ve seen me, I’m NOT long OR lean :) But they make me feel like I am!

I love the panic in your son’s voice that OMGMOMMYSGOINGSOMEWHEREWITHOUTME!!!!! So cute <3

Oh yeah, can you tell we didn’t rehearse that?? I told him he was ruining my shot :)

Great review! Thanks for sharing this. Will definitely be picking up a pair next time I’m at Tarjay!

I’ve never wondered what face I make when I put on my jeans.  Now I’m going to have to get dressed in front of the mirror just to see.  And, honey, this rear end is NOT a size 8, so it’s not gonna be pretty.  The best part was your son’s stunned disbelief that you were going out somewhere without him – hilarious!

    • Anonymous

I will confess that I tried these jeans on prior to the camera rolling. I would not have wanted to find out ON camera that I couldn’t squeeze my rear end into them!

And yes, he really thought Mommy was leaving him!

Let me know how much they “stretch” out…that is my biggest gripe with jeans.  They fit well the first hour or so, but by the end of the day, they are so stretched out:(  But otherwise, they look great!  I’ll check them out the next time that I’m at Target.

I need to wash them and then wear them for a full day because I know EXACTLY what you mean. This stretch material feels pretty tight but I’ll let you know as soon as the weather eases up and I can actually wear jeans for a full day!!

I love my 7 jeans and will find the money to buy them if I am in the states. However, I will not buy them in Rio where they cost about $800! Ouch! So I ended up buying hammer pant jeans. Seriously: http://rachel-oddsandends.blogspot.com/2011/07/wordless-wednesday-my-new-jeans.html Just said. The anti-Mom jean that makes me look like I crapped my pants, but I love them

Ummm, I *think* I like those jeans but I don’t really understand them.

If I ever in my life see a super slim size 6 again, I WILL buy 7 jeans and report on them.

I buy jeans according to price point and usually don’t even look at the more expensive ones or try them on for fear I will love them and for the price of $150 they give me the body I want.  I stick to forever 21/old navy/Gap for my jeans purchases but I may have to try Target and get a pair for myself.

I’m afraid to walk into Forever 21 because I’m so far from 21 I’m think they would kick me out.

If you do want to try the jeans, check out their FB page for a coupon!

I wear Express jeans and have for years.  I love them, love the way they fit, and I REALLY love that I don’t even have to try them on anymore.  Because really, is there anything worse than trying on jeans?  I’ve heard about dENIZEN jeans – and if they’re at Target I’ll probably give them a try.  I love me some Target (and aside from my jeans, that’s where almost all of my clothes are from).

I used to LOVE Old Navy jeans but their sizing is so inconsistent and they change styles every year. Now they just don’t fit me right. If you decide to give them a try, stop by their FB page first and get a coupon!

Okay first, I love watching you on video, always guaranteed a laugh. Those jeans look comfortable & I am always on the hunt for an affordable pair of jeans. My sister just went out and spent 115 on a single pair of jeans and I gave her crap for the entire weekend she was here about it.

    • Anonymous

If you sister single and thin? Then she is allowed to buy $115 jeans. But the rest of us have to be a bit more practical. I say give them a try and check out their deals first on their FB page:

Oh yeah she’s tiny. She kept saying “it’s like they were made for me” I won’t admit it to her but they did fit her as if they were made for her. I need to go winter shopping soon and they’re on my list to go check out while at target. Thanks for the deal link Fadra

If I could fit in and afford Seven jeans I would be all over that. Sadly, I can do neither. My problem is not getting over the hips its the zipping and then not having muffin action going on. I am totally going to try these next time I’m at Target, which will probably be tomorrow.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, the muffin top is a probably with pretty much any pants I wear. I like the low waisted pants for that reason but then I have an overhang. Ah yes. The middle-aged post-baby belly. Forgot to add the like to their FB page where you can get coupons for them!

Loved the video!! Especially the part where Evan says “Mommy, tell me!”

Jeans looked good. I have always been told get a pair of Seven jeans and as much as I love designer stuff and as much as I wear jeans (hello, it’s my fall and winter wardrobe) I just can’t drop over 70$ for a pair of jeans. I am always on the hunt for a quality pair of cheap jeans. I will try this brand…an maybe do my own vlog about them!

    • Anonymous

Ooh! I hope you do vlog! You are such the fashionista! Check out their FB page first though and get a coupon. Just found out about the deal!

On a mission to stop being frumpy mom and going to look for some jeans that keep me hot. Thanks for the tip.
BTW…you asked me what twisting my hair was a few weeks ago and I did a(poorly shot)  vlog answer.

There is a difference between high-waisted jeans and mom jeans.  I think those ladies look fabulous, like Katherine Hepburns of 2011.
