It’s conference season for me. I’m in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Type-A Parent Conference and having an amazing time (more to come on that next week). I’ll be heading to BlogHer in August. Not only does that give me a ample content for this blog but it also gives me the opportunity to listen and tell stories wherever I go.
Today’s (Optional) Writing Prompt: What are the stories of your life that you love to tell people when you have a chance?
Here we go…
—
How often do you get a chance to tell your life story? And when you do, how long does it take?
I’ve been away at a blogging conference all weekend (Type-A Parent Conference, to be exact). While I plan to spend plenty of time writing about how fab it’s been, I’m proud that I was able to follow through on my goals for conferences going forward.
Here it is: I love to hang out, have a few drinks, go to parties, and all that good stuff. But whta I’ve been missing is the personal connection. The quality over quantity. And I’ve had a lot more real conversations at this conference.
One of my favorite moments came tonight when I sat down with Caitlin (@caitm from Mabel’s Labels) and we ended up chatting about love and babies and marriage, not necessarily in that order. We chatted about being mom to boys and how hard it is to answer questions for little boys and when you just need to call in a male influencer.
But what we really talked about was my love story. The story about how Sean and I met and were engaged 3 months later and married 3 months after that. It was a whirlwind, magical story that I love to talk about (and have written about) and when Caitlin asked to hear it, I gladly obliged,
What about your story?

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
- Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
- Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
- Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
- Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
- Link up your post below.
- Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.
Now…
1. Grab the button
(it’s over in the sidebar)
2. Write your post.
3. Link up here.

I never thought about having a goal AT a conference… just goals after the conference. I’ll have to do that for BlogHer, although not having a clue as to what to expect while I’m there might be hard to set goals. But I’m going to do it.
Sounds like you have been having an amazing time at Type A… wish that I had been able to go!
I usually don’t have goals but after BlogHer last year, I left feeling like I talking to so many people but never really connected with anyone.
Wow – from strangers to married in 6 months – you’re a real, live case of love at first sight! I made my hubby wait a year before he could even ask me.
I’m sure my mom would have preferred it your way but when you know, you know!
I did the strangers to married in about 6 months as well. 9 years and two boys later we are still going strong. And people said it wouldn’t last. Did people say that to you?
Surprisingly, nobody has concerns for me. I think they knew I was a tough nut and were just happy I found someone to marry me!
Your relationship is really impressive!! I loved this prompt! It made me smile just writing my story.
Can’t wait to go and read it!
I love this prompt, Fadra. Oh, how I love it. You inspire me… perhaps to start a storytelling circle amongst friends (and strangers!)
I miss more storytelling. I’ve got tons of stories but I always seem to get distracted by other things on my blog (like shiny objects).
That’s great! It’s about telling the stories that make us light up from the inside. I’ve never thought of having a goal AT a conference, I’m going to BloggyBootCamp in Las Vegas and I think I should have a goal for the conference. think, think, think
Sometimes it’s great to walk away with knowledge, or personal connections, of just an affirmation that you belong in the community of blogging. Wish I was going. I would love to meet you!
Definitely! Especially the affirmation that you belong in the community of blogging and that no matter what your stats are you are making a contribution to the community. I would love to meet you too! It will happen at some point, I know it!
I loved our time chatting at TypeA this weekend. Love you. Thank you. xo
You are one of the most fascinating people I’ve met. Seriously. And you have really cute dresses.
[…] my heart after I feel like I was just talking about this last weekend and even touched on it with my post last Sunday. But what I described was more of a love story. The story of how I met my husband, how we fell in […]
