Last week, I mentioned about the pride swelling in my chest from being part of the NWF campaign called “Be Out There,” a joint project with the National Wildlife Federation and The Motherhood. It’s a free e-book that helps parents figure out creative ways to get their kids outside.
My specific section was on balancing screen time with green time, an ongoing challenge in my household. It’s getting better and getting easier, though, because the weather is getting cooler and I have some news. Even more exciting that being part of the NWF e-book.
EVAN CAN RIDE A BIKE!!!
It’s blurry because it’s an action shot. BECAUSE HE IS RIDING ALL BY HIMSELF!
My heart seriously swelled up with pride and my eyes filled with tears when I saw him finally riding after just a few short months ago when he wanted nothing to do with his bike with training wheels because it was “too hard.” After many days filled with I can’t do it, HE CAN DO IT!
In case my CAPS and exclamation points aren’t conveying this properly, I am so excited for him. But now comes the best part…
He wants me to ride my bike with him! He asks me if I want to ride bikes. While I don’t do it very often, I love to ride my bike and so I whipped that bad boy out, pumped up the tires, threw on my helmet, and we rode up and down the street together. All of the sudden I started envisioning family trips where we all ride our bikes through lovely wooded paths and stop for a healthy, nutritious picnic lunch. And maybe even a rare spotted owl crosses our path as well.
I mean, if I’m going to dream, I’m going to dream big.
Now it’s time for you to dream big or just share ideas about getting your kids outside. I’m inviting you to join me for a Twitter party on Tuesday, August 19th from 1pm to 2pm ET. If you’re new to Twitter, it’s a great way to experience all of the interaction that you can have with people you may not even know! And best of all? Like any good party, there will be prizes. Oh yes! Mark your calendar and join me with a lot of other amazing women (and now co-authors) to celebrate our new free e-book!
We’re celebrating the release of this remarkable e-book with a Twitter party! Join us to chat about tips for being out there, and share new ones of your own. Getting outside can be fun for the whole family, but sometimes we just need some inspiration from other like-minded moms.
