Quick – what’s the biggest difference between the Hyundai Elantra and the Rolls-Royce Wraith?
If you answered price, you’re right. That’s the biggest difference. The Hyundai Elantra roughly falls in the $20,000 range while the Rolls-Royce Wraith falls into the $420,000 range.
Yes, you read that right. But that’s just one example of the large variety of vehicles available this year at the Washington Automotive Press Association’s annual Road Rally. There were over 50 vehicles brought by many sponsors for members of this press organization to try and drive. On this day each, I honestly feel like a kid in a candy store.
From about 10 am to 5 pm, all of the attendees walk around in a frenzy wondering what to drive first. There are always those that go for the high dollar sports cars so I don’t even try. I usually wait for everyone to zoom out in what they deem the hottest, coolest, or most elusive cars and then I have my pick from the great variety of solid and often innovative cars that usually have a lower price tag.
I switch it up though. I go from a good old fashioned minivan to a high end convertible sports car without a second thought. And usually by the time I make it out of the parking lot, I have a pretty good idea if I want to take it for a long drive to get to know it better or simply go once around the block. Even with this plan, I couldn’t even cover half of the cars by the end of our drive time.
So instead of trying to cram in all the knowledge about all of the features for every single car, I focused on one thing: enjoying the ride. And I couldn’t do that without capturing some of the details as well.
As I drove each car, I noticed the big differences – like the quality of the interior, the power of the engine, the smoothness of the ride. But I also noticed a lot of the little differences too. I stopped to appreciate some of the unique features or design elements that made each car special. And I’d like to invite you to join me in exploring the cars I drove.
To make it a little more fun, I’m going to make it a contest.
While at the Road Rally, I got to feast my eyes on the new Kia Stinger and sit inside to enjoy the Harman/Kardon sound system. To make it more interesting, Harman/Kardon challenged us to play a little carpool karaoke and with three other WAPA members, we created a rendition of Wrecking Ball that none of us will soon forget. It was worth it though because they awarded us each a Harman/Kardon Esquire Mini Portable Bluetooth Speaker.
I liked mine so much that I decided that I’m going to give one away to one of my lucky readers who is not only intuitive but knows how important the details can be on any vehicle.
Take a look at the details I captured below and then play the match game! You need to pick which photo matches which car (from the list provided). The person who gets the most right will win the Esquire Mini! And if there’s a tie (or you get them all right), I’ll randomly pick a winner from all the correct entries.
Ready, Set, GO!

9. IT’S A HOT BED OF ACTIVITY!
Yes, it’s a bedliner but this one is practically a giveaway!
10. DISTINCTIVE QUARTER GLASS!
This vehicle stands out from the rest of this brand’s lineup. It’s the quarter glass that makes it so distinctive!
11. THIS CAR IS SPIRITUAL
Enough said about this one.
12. TAIL LIGHTS FOR DAYS!
I love these tail lights (and everything else about this vehicle for that matter).
Okay. Ready to test your knowledge? It’s just like being in school where you can make an educated guess and still have a shot at winning. I’ll keep the contest open for exactly ONE WEEK, until 10/23/17 at midnight ET (limited to U.S. residents – sorry international readers!) and next week, I’ll reveal each vehicle in a little more detail with my thoughts on each one.
