Although I’m totally off schedule this year (January has been complicated), I’m slowly working my way through the Blogmas posts featuring the best of 2014 that you probably never read. I like to think of them as hidden gems because chances are I’ve never read most of the submitted posts until after they’ve been submitted. Lord knows I never have time to read blogs anymore. And without Blogmas, I wouldn’t have had the humorous Wednesday that I did.
I think you’re going to love these. And who doesn’t need a little midweek humor?
1. Best Post to Remind You to Wear a Shirt When You Go Out by Cindy Reed at The Reedster Speaks
Let me just say that when I read something funny, I remain expressionless. I feel the funny on the inside but I just don’t show it on the outside. Until this post. I read it. I actually laughed out loud. I watched the brief video that helped with the visuals of the post and I ended up with tears in my eyes. Good tears, y’all. You’re going to thank me for this one.
2. Best Video Post for Parents Who Take Their Kids WAY Too Seriously by MotorheadMama at Motorhead Mama
There are more careers in LA than actress, model, wannabe actress, and wannabe model. And the best way to expose your kids to these potential careers is actually the CAR SHOW. Who knew that a few shiny cars can actually help your kids in areas like Gender Studies, Information Technology, and even Career Planning. But Harvard might not be in their future…
3. Best Effort at Remaining Sane When Dealing With A Government Agency by AJ at Confessions of a Fat Girl
AJ experienced what I like to call the “eternal hold” immortalized in the MadTV clip about Comcast Cable. And the only reason this is funny and that she actually stayed sane is because she didn’t get disconnected seconds after the moment of connection. Because THAT has actually happened to me. Many times. Let’s just click on over and see what really did happen while on hold with the department of Water and PowerD
4. Best Post If You Don’t Want to Soil Yourself on an Airplane by Cindy Reed at The Reedster Speaks
Finally, someone else who takes the exit row very seriously. However, after reading this post, you’d probably want Cindy to sit in the exit row and not me. She always has your safety in mind and, truth be told, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t actually lift that door even though I tell the flight attendants I can.
5. Most Triumphant Moment of Personal Honesty and Acceptance by AJ at Confessions of a Fat Girl
You might think I’ve miscategorized this post. That a piece about personal honesty and acceptance is more of a heartfelt piece. But I’m here to tell you that it’s funny. Because I get the intolerance AJ has for those moments of OMG I’M SO HOT because that pretty much describes me every single day of summer.
6. Easiest (and Most Realistic) Meal Plan by Mary Laura Philpott at I Miss You When I Blink
Easily one of the funniest blogs out there and yet I only seem to read it once a year when Blogmas rolls around. But the timing of this post couldn’t be more perfect. It’s meal planning and healthy eating all rolled into one single diagram. It’s the kind of thing I would come up with while eating a cheeseburger and beer and looking at everyone’s “Whole30” meals on Facebook (yes, that actually was my Monday night).
7. Best Post About a Childhood Memory by Jill Berry at Musings from Me
A childhood memory can be good, bad, or just plain ridiculous. In this case, I simply snickered at this story. Jill’s memory of the grand opening of a rec center in her hometown in England vaguely reminds me of when our small town threw a parade when McDonald’s opened up (and Grimace passed out from the heat). Ah, the English. So subtle and refined. Sometimes a little too much so.
8. Best Wow-LA-Isn’t-Really-Like-Everywhere-Else-Is-It? Post by MotorheadMama at Motorhead Mama
First of all, look at the post title: “A Load of Porsche It.” Get it? Say it in your head. Now say it out loud. Now do you get it? Okay, I was definitely amused by that (after I got it, of course). As a fellow chick who digs cars, this strange phenomenon in LA turned out to be not so strange. Because, LA.
9. Best Accidental Flashing Incident Out of an Already Really Embarrassing Moment by AJ at Confessions of a Fat Girl
There’s some flashing that goes on in this post (accidental, of course) but the part that really spoke to me was the part about mustard. If I’m wearing white and I’m eating mustard, there’s some law of physics or something that says the mustard must fall onto that object of clothing. I think AJ knows what I’m talking about.
10. Best Reassurance to People Who DIDN’T like Frozen by Melissa at Me!
This one was really hard for me to include because, well, it’s FROZEN. And everyone loves Frozen! I mean, sure, we’re sick to death of it but we LOVE it! Until Melissa picks it apart. While this is an opinion piece, I loved the paragraph on the logic of keeping Anna and Elsa captive in their own home. Because it made me think, Oh yeah. Hmmm. No worries though. I still like warm hugs.
Want to read more Blogmas posts? Don’t worry. I’ve got two more days of posts that I plan to cram into this week. Tomorrow, you’ll want to bring your tissues with you because I’ve got some good ones to share with you. And if you missed my fabulous take on Blogmas, you can still read my 5 most popular posts vs. the 5 posts that should have been my most popular.
