Some women glow while others sweat. I’ll just say that when I work out (or just exert myself), it’s not pretty. Sweat drips from my forehead, my back, and other places that shall remain nameless and my face gets beat red. People always ask me, Are you alright? Your face is so red!
Yeah. “Physically active” is generally not a good look for me. So I make up for it in other ways.
- I wear make up. Oh yes, I do. I don’t need a full on made up face but if I wear a little eyeliner, mascara, and lipgloss, I look a little more glowing and a little less deathlike.
- I wear cute workout outfits. As much as I’d love to, I don’t shop at the supercute stores like Lululemon or Athleta. My budget and my sensibility just doesn’t justify it. But between Kohl’s, TJMaxx, and athletic outlet stores, I can buy enough items that make me feel like I look good before I get started.
- I wear jewelry. I know, I know. It sounds ridiculous. Won’t jewelry get in the way? Isn’t it a hazard? Won’t you lose something? Nope. Not with my recommendations.
Since it’s Fashion Week in NYC, I thought I’d throw a little of my fashion knowledge out there for those who want to get down and dirty but still look good while doing it.
Note: I am not a professional athlete. I do, however, have a gym membership that I occasionally use.
Wedding Ring
It may be uncomfortable. It may get sweaty. It may hurt your fingers. But let’s face it. When you go to the meat market called the gym, you want to let those men know SHE’S TAKEN, BOYS.
And if it truly is a hindrance, just take the diamond off. You don’t have to be flashy to be taken.
Earrings
I’m one of those women that feels naked if I don’t have any earrings on. In fact, back in my office days, I was known to turn around if I had forgotten earrings or lipstick. I just feel incomplete without them. But, again, you also don’t want them getting in the way or bouncing around or tugging on your ears or getting stuck in your helmet. So I keep it simple.
Now you don’t have to pull out the diamonds for a workout but generally diamond earrings are some of the most secure. Because they’re diamonds, you know. Nobody wants diamond earrings falling off because that would make them mad. I picked up these little beauties over ten years ago on a cruise ship for $99. They make me feel fancy even if the diamonds are so small that no one can tell.
Hair Band
NO, no, no. Not THAT kind of hair band. I mean, a band that you put in your hair to keep it out of your face. Kind of like this one.
I was getting ready to go for a bike ride and I knew my hair would be a lost cause anyway once that helmet came off. So I put on this lovely little hair band that I recently received in my Wantable shipment. It had just the right amount of silver for it to look like jewelry and yet still be functional.
Bracelet
And finally, put on a stylish bracelet like this one.
Why would I wear a bracelet? Would it jingle jangle and get in the way? Not this one. It’s adjustable and even better, IT SERVES A PURPOSE! This is actually the Mira Fitness Bracelet and Tracker. Not only does it come in two stylish colors (brushed gold and midnight purple), it tracks you steps, stairs, calories, and miles, all while looking simply like part of your outfit.
And here’s the best part. You don’t have to be afraid to wear it when you’re NOT working. Because it’s a bracelet. Not a big, ugly, manly, gigantic watch looking thing. It’s a fashion statement. And if you don’t believe me, you can even see the night I wore it to the theater.
So the next time someone laughs at you for being vain or worrying about how you look when you work out, just laugh right back and make yourself feel good.
Now THAT’S a cute way to ride a bike.

I need one of those, but I hate bracelets. I’ve managed to adjust to Magic Bands though, so maybe …
Ha! Good point. I usually don’t end up taking off my magic band until I’m at the airport. And then my wrist feels so… naked. Yes, you can get used to it. And something about tracking those numbers holds me accountable!
I definitely could use some accountability! I want something different though – everyone has a FitBit, you know? I like going against the grain. LOL
