Having a child when I was of “advanced maternal age” put me at risk for a child with issues, specifically Down syndrome. Frankly, I was terrified of having a special needs child because I was certain I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
I’m sure I’m not the only mother in the world with these thoughts. I’m sure there are even more future moms out there with these thoughts.
Today, on World Down Syndrome Day (they picked March 21st because the syndrome is also known as trisomy 21), I’m sharing with you one of the most beautiful videos I’ve seen in a long time. And yes, it made me cry. In a really, really good way.
If you want to read more about life as the mom of a child with Down syndrome, I encourage you to read Kelle Hampton’s story of being a mother to her daughter Nella.
