I’ve always considered myself a big kid. Even my son will tell me I have a kid heart. I’m constantly reliving my childhood through him with TV shows, old commercials on YouTube, and even with some of my toys (he loved my Cabbage Patch preemie doll).
But as a Generation X’er, I’m sometimes on the wrong side of nostalgia, which is how I feel when it comes to the Care Bears.
As part of my role as Blogger Bash Ambassador, I helped support some of the major sponsors through Twitter parties and posts like these. Back in June, I was asked to participate in the Care Bears Twitter party and this was my real, true response:
Seriously? I have a boy. I know NOTHING about Care Bears.
So to do the Care Bears justice, I did my research. I learned about Grumpy Bear, Funshine Bear, Cheer Bear, Tenderheart Bear, and all the others. I learned about Care-a-Lot, the Forest of Feelings, and even the Care Bear cousins.
But it wasn’t until I attended the Care Bears Share Your Care Brunch that I really got it.
For many of you, the Care Bears were such an important part of your childhood. Those bears meant something to you and as a result, you want your child to have the same experience. I’ve even seen many parents passing down their Care Bears to their own kids.
Even though it wasn’t part of my generation, I loved seeing the same sense of nostalgia that so many people in the room were feeling as Sean Gorman, President of American Greetings Properties (AGP) talked about all the great plans for the next generation of Care Bear lovers.

Now maybe you’re thinking that you’re just like me. You’re too old to feel connected to the Care Bears and your kids are too old to care.
I sat and listened to everything new that was happening but what really touched me was when they honored 10-year-old New Yorker Zachary Kaplan as the Care Bears’ first #ShareYourCare Ambassador Award recipient for his commitment to helping others through philanthropy. Zach shared his inspiration on how and why every child deserves a stuffed animal to cuddle at night. His mission this year is to ensure every homeless child has a Care Bear.
Now do you see that it’s about more than stuffed animals and cartoons? Care Bears has launched their #ShareYourCare campaign to encourage fans to show caring, sharing and compassion towards others.
So when they called for everyone to stand and take the #ShareYourCare oath?
I rose with the hundreds of other women (and a few men), raised my right hand, and made the pledge.
If you’re younger than me and have a story to share or your kids love Care Bears, I’d love to hear your thoughts on raising the next generation of sharing, caring fans. And when you’re ready, take your own oath and stand proudly with me as an ambassador!
