Easy Entertaining with a Char-Broil Grill

For years, I rebelled against the typical female stereotype. It wasn’t that I didn’t like to cook or clean (well, who does like to clean?). It’s just that I didn’t want to assume the role of cooking and cleaning. But the truth is that I’m good at both of them.

While I wouldn’t mind outsourcing the cleaning part of my routine, I’ve actually embraced the idea of being a good cook. Starting in January of this year, I vowed to make healthier choices and that meant more cooking and less eating out. It wasn’t until my 10 year old son told me that my food was so good that I should open a restaurant that I started to believe I was pretty decent at cooking.

At first, I thought he was humoring me. I thought he was simply happy that I was finally cooking instead of performing microwave magic. But he really enjoys when I try new things and new cooking methods, like slow cooking, pressure cooking, and grilling.

Overcoming Grilling Fears

If you’re like me and love to try new things, I can’t wait to tell you about my latest cooking accessory. But if you’re not like me, I know the reason why. It’s because…

YOU’RE SCARED.

I know that sounds silly but I chat with you on Facebook or talk to you out in the neighborhood and you’re afraid of anything that doesn’t involve the oven or stove, your safe and familiar cooking territories.

I’m here to tell you two things:

  1. Your pressure cooker WILL NOT explode.
  2. Grills are really easy to use (especially the Char-Broil Grill).

Your Grilling Primer

Since the weather is finally warmer, let’s talk about grilling because, before you know it, the ultimate grilling day will be here (typically considered to be Memorial Day).

A few summers ago, I decided that I wanted to take grilling into my own hands. I felt too dependent on my husband. If I wanted to cook a burger or hot dog, I would have to say, “Honey, can you get the grill ready?”

It wasn’t that I didn’t know how. It was that I had this mental obstacle to overcome. So I bought and assembled my very own small, easy-to-use grill and I became a GRILLMASTER.

Then my husband got another grill, gave mine away, and I felt stripped of my grilling expertise again. I had to get used to how to light this one, how to tell if it had enough propane, how to clean it and where the hot and cold spots were. Recently, I found that I turned the grill on and it never reached a temperature over 300 degrees.

But the joke’s on my husband because I JUST GOT A NEW GRILL and I feel like the playing field is level again. Although he fixed the other grill, he’s now all over my new Char-Broil Commercial™ 4 Burner Gas Grill.  Here’s why:

  • It’s got 4 burners (3 is good so 4 must be better!)
  • It’s got the new TRU-Infrared Cooking system (more on that below)
  • It has porcelain cast-iron grates
  • It’s got its very own side burner

The side burner is perfect for sautéing toppings or simmering a sauce.

The TRU-Infrared Cooking system is what makes all the difference. Instead of the grates being directly over the flames (and you having to worry about hot spots and flare-ups), the flames are covered by a stainless steel shield with little tiny ports. That allows the heat to be evenly distributed across the entire cooking surface.

Look closely at the little tiny holes in between each grate. It’s how the heat is evenly distributed across the cast iron grates.

But you can hardly take my word for it. You need to see that Char-Broil grill in action, am I right?

Putting the Char-Broil Grill to the Test

Well, you’re in luck because entertaining is my forté and I had just the occasion for it.

My mother’s birthday is on April 10th and the one thing I know about my mom is that she’d rather have a homecooked meal than a restaurant night for her celebration. So my husband bought just about all the beef he could find and we decided to grill up her favorite food – steaks.

Both ribeyes and filets were cooked to perfection.

(We actually offered everyone their choice of ribeye and filet. Ribeyes are said to be more flavorful because of the marbling but I’m a filet kind of girl.)

I’ll cook sausage, burgers, and chicken on the grill all day long but when it comes to good meat and cooking it to perfection, I bow to my husband’s grilling expertise. He took the orders – mine was filet, cooked medium – and set off to put the grill to the test.

Could you grill 8 steaks and a piece of salmon and have them cooked perfectly? Yeah, me neither but my husband totally pulled it off on the Char-Broil grill!

Don’t worry, though. I helped!

We always cook the potatoes in the microwave and finish them on the grill for a rustic flavor.

I stayed inside and made the salad, microwaved the potatoes, and prepped the asparagus. When the grill was clear and the meat was resting, I finished the potatoes on the grill and sautéed the asparagus to perfection.

We ended the evening the way all birthdays should end. With an ice cream cake and some photobombing!

My mom's birthday - a perfect reason to grill!
My mom loved her birthday meal and we all left stuffed and happy.

While I consider my husband and I both to be grillmasters and we both love entertaining, it really works best when it’s a team effort. And we pulled off this birthday feast like a BEAST. And I’m pretty sure MY GRILL stays. We both loved the even cooking of the Char-Broil Grill and how easy it was to clean. And we’re already planning our Memorial Day grilling feast.

Shall I put you down for the ribeye or the filet?
