*This post is in no way discriminatory. As I started writing the headline for this post, I had a flashback to my college theatre days and thought of the play “A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking.” For real. You can check it out yourself.
Remember way back to early this year when I was all gung-ho about running? I totally was. I bought new shoes. I downloaded the Couch-to-5k app on my iPhone. And more importantly, I started running.
Something happened during those amazing three weeks of my life. I felt really good.
I was committed to it and I had the time and motivation to do it. I loved my shoes. I went to TJMaxx and, for the first time in my life, felt like I belonged in the Activewear department. I bought tight running pants and a light-weight synthetic jacket, some super-tight running bras, and off I went.
Unfortunately, after about three weeks, I got sick. I still ran but eventually felt too sick to run. I dragged myself to the doctor and learned I had one of my thrice-yearly occurrences of bronchitis. So I gave myself time to recover. But the coughing persisted for weeks and weeks afterward. I stopped and fully planned to start again.
But things happen. The house went back on the market, we sold it, we packed, we moved, and then we tried to find our new normal.
Since moving, I’ve been so tired all the time and trying to get back into the routine of exercise. I’ve yet to find the energy and the motivation.
We joined a gym. I’ve been about 5 times (not including the trips to the Family Fun pool, which I would hardly consider exercise).
Thinking there was a medical explanation for my malaise, I went to the doctor and had a full blood work-up. No Lyme disease, no thyroid problems, no Vitamin D deficiencies. Nothing. I was healthy. So what is my problem?
Well, there’s a lot of baggage that comes with uprooting your entire life and trying to find that new normal. I’m trying to work through the baggage and what’s helping is being surrounding by women just like me.
We’re all moms of school-aged kids. We all like to drink wine and read books and run, not at the same time, of course. And some of us are more keen on the idea of running than the actually running but we admitted to each other that we could all use a little peer motivation. And I had just the thing to kick it off.
A RUNNING PARTY!!!!
I had the opportunity to host a yurbuds® Inspire for Women Running Party. I’m pretty sure my version of a running party wasn’t was yurbuds® had in mind but it got the conversation going.
First, what you need to know:
yurbuds® Inspire are sport earphones designed specifically for women. Why did this appeal to me? Because when I was running, my earbuds would fall out all the time. And then I got these New Balance earbuds that went over my ear and helped keep them in place. Except my ears are too small! This is a real problem for me anytime I’m doing any type of exercise.
I actually once put a call out on Twitter for help with earbud selection. And I found some that fit in my ears. The sound quality is great but it blocks out all ambient noise. And when I’m outside running, I’m that super paranoid lady always looking over her shoulder. I like to hear what’s going on around me while I listen to my music.

Here’s how it went: I asked a few of the ladies who run if they preferred a weekend morning let’s-have healthy-snacks-and-get-pumped-to-go-running party or a weekend evening let’s-have-healthy-snacks-and-drink-wine-and-talk-about-going-running party. They chose the latter and so we did.
I did force people to come in their running gear (most of them obliged) so we could get into the spirit of the party. Since we’re all relatively new to the neighborhood, we spent most of the evening getting to know each other and drinking wine. And then, like a dutiful host, I made sure I stood up and talked about yurbuds® and the party pack everyone was receiving. I feel like I missed my calling as a Tupperware lady.
Since everyone that attended lives in the non-blogging world, they were especially excited to receive free product. And we did talk about running. One of my friends has done a mud run. Another is gearing up for a half-marathon. As for me? I’m just looking to get back off the couch again. I still have dreams of that 5k.
Disclosure: For hosting a yurbuds® Inspire for Women Running Party, I received 10 party kits for me and my guests that included the yurbuds® Inspire small size earphones (love!) and the sporty yurbuds® sweatband that I’m wearing in those awful running pictures of me. And a towel, for when I sweat. This post contains affiliate links.
