It’s one of my very favorite times of year. It’s conference season! And it’s not just conference season. It’s event season too. Just this year, I’ve traveled to the Detroit with Ford for the NAIAS, the Washington Auto Show, Napa Valley and Lake Tahoe for Volvo, VACATION, the NY Auto Show, Sweet Welcome in Hershey, Los Angeles for a Fiat launch, and, most recently, the Mom 2.0 Summit in Scottsdale. And as you’re reading this, I’ll be headed to Orlando for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration.
It’s fun and exhausting and I miss my family but traveling so much has made me a better packer.
You might think the biggest stress for all of these events is figuring out what to wear. And you’d be right to a degree. The real trick is to find the right pieces to wear and then just keep wearing them again and again.
I’ve been working with Aventura Clothing for over a year now and my Spring order has by far been my favorite (the reasons why will come in another post). In the Spring and Summer, I usually stick to dresses and skirts and flattering tops (trust me, this can be a challenge). And then I accessorize. Well, I found all of these things in my latest order and I figured, why mess with a good thing?
For example, take a look at one of my favorite pieces, the Saphira Infinity Scarf in Velvet Morning. (Is it just a coincidence that I was named after a song called “Some Velvet Morning”?)
It’s a scarf, right? But it’s casual or dressy and just the right pop of color. And I quickly learned that you can double loop it or, if you’re feeling crazy, triple loop it.
Why, yes, that is me practicing my blow dart skills!
I loved my infinity scarf so much I took it to California with me.
I can’t decide what’s cuter: the scarf, the Fiat 500X, or my driving partner Dawn from Simply Sassy’s Style.
Don’t worry. You’re going to see that scarf again. Like the night I wore my Nori dress, another one of my favorites. This one came out for a dinner I had with Fandango Family at the Mom 2.0 Summit.
It’s so super comfortable that I can dress up without feeling dressed up. It’s made of a 60 organic cotton/40 modal slub jersey blend with a crocheted neckline and open-tie back. It’s short enough to be cute for summer and long enough to not belong on the beach. And in my go-to color, black, it can be dressed up or down.
That fine lady with me is one of my homies, Andrea from Just is a Four Letter Word. We dined together that evening, compliments of Fandango. Also, recognize that scarf?
But I promise I don’t just wear that scarf. I also wear this one.
It’s the Kristen scarf in Violet Storm. I’m sure there’s a proper fashion name for the coloring that fades from light to dark, like ombre. Maybe ombre is the right word. But it’s a beautiful scarf in a color I never expected to like.
But what if you’re not that into accessories, like scarves? You just want something straight up to wear that’s comfortable and can be dressed up or down. I gotcha right here.
The Savilla dress is perfectly paired with a jean jacket or little cardigan in the Spring or bare armed in the summer. Match it with a scarf, necklace, or nothing at all. It’s entirely up to you.
The best part about this dress is it is cut in such a way as to mask all your trouble spots (hey, tummy, I’m talking to you!).
So what does all this have to do with events and conferences? It’s simply to say that you shouldn’t stress about what you’re wearing. Find something you like, that feels good, and that flatters your style. Then change up the accessories every time you wear it and then WEAR IT. Again and again and again. Because, truth be told, the only one who’s really going to remember is you.
