Since I’ve been working a REAL job (real = I have to get up and get dressed and shower and put on make-up and go to an office and I earn a steady paycheck), I’ve been keeping up just fine with my writing. In fact, I love it more than ever. Still wishing I had more time but loving the outlet it provides.
BUT…
I’m falling down on the promotional side of things. How do I get people to read it? (Yes, I know that’s the million dollar question of any blogger).
I have the autotweet thingy hooked up so that my new posts tweet out when published, usually between 8am and 8am every morning. I have the Networked Blog thing on my Facebook profile (but according to “experts,” Facebook hates third party apps, unless they own them, and gives a lower priority to those posts in any newsfeed).
Other than that, it’s up to me. To tweet a little. Share on my Facebook page. Or hope all my subscribers read it.
What’s that you say? I have no button to subscribe to my RSS feed?
Yes, when I updated my social media buttons in the upper right, I apparently forgot about a little thing called RSS (thanks to @ErinMargolin for pointing that out). So you can still subscribe via email over on the right but if you’re looking for an RSS subscription, well, I’ll get to it. Eventually.
In the meantime, I’m doing the post wrap-up for the posts I spent a lot of time on that I think you should read. Especially the first one.
1. Blogmas 2012: Break Out Your Fancy Dresses
I just realized how sexist that sounds. You can break out your tux as well. This is my THIRD Blogmas event. Every year is a little different but I really like taking the time to shine the light on some of the best, funniest, entertaining, heartwarming, amazing posts of the year. And mostly, I like it because it’s all about YOUR opinion. This is one chance to any blog or blog post, big or small, yours or someone else’s, to gain a little recognition. So enter as many posts as you like but DO IT TODAY!!! It’s the DEADLINE!
2. Fadra’s First Ever Highly Unusual Gift Guide
You know you still have some shopping to do. Oh no. Don’t try to fool me. You KNOW you still have something to buy. You’ll pull out all the gifts to wrap for your kids, think you bought way too much stuff, and then remember that one thing that you really wanted to get them. And you’ll go buy it anyway. And then you’ll remember you didn’t get anything for your Uncle Richard. Not to worry. I’ve got lots of ideas right here. You know, if you want them.
3. The Seventh Annual Blogger Christmahanukwanzaakah Online Holiday Concert!
This is not my post. This post belongs to the amazing Neil Kramer (@neilochka) who generously provides space on his blog every year to host a Blogger Holiday concert extravaganza. You’ll find many bloggers you know and love singing, playing musical instruments, and doing other artistic interpretations of songs (like yours truly, cough, Grinch). Because trust me, you don’t want to hear me sing. If you go back two years ago, you’ll find that Neil graciously published my rendition of Christmas Island. It still gives me nightmares.
4. Just 5 Things… My Favorite Christmas Songs
If listening to bloggers singing makes your ears bleed (but seriously, some of them have some pipes), then you might want to head over to this short fun post (with audio!) for my top 5 Christmas songs for the season. They aren’t all standards so even if you think you’ve heard it all , there might be something new for you to hear. And I promise, Christmas Island did NOT make the list.
5. When Ugly Goes Chic (An Ugly Christmas Sweater Story)
This one’s just for fun. If you like looking at sparkly Christmas clothes because they’re so festive, this post may not be for you. If you think it’s time to have “the talk” with your Aunt Marylou about her obsession with holiday-themed clothing, you might like this. I went admittedly conservative with my baubles this year but I’m happy to say that my ugly Chrismas clothes are not going to waste. I wore them to my son’s kindergarten class on Tuesday and apparently beweled clothing that jingle when you walk are a big hit with the 5 year old crowd.
