I was overwhelmed by all of the submissions for Blogmas, my own little showcase of your best works. What I like about Blogmas so much is that not only do I get introduced to amazing new posts and blogs, but I get to introduce them to you. And hopefully, you find new writers and blogs to fall in love with.
But I had a LOT of posts to read. And it’s usually not until I read them all that I decide how to best organize them. Let’s be honest, though. Blogmas is totally subjective with my subjectivity at the heart of it. And you still submit your posts anyway.
While I loved so many of the posts this year (and had only read maybe two of them all on my own during the year), I decided to kick off the first day of Blogmas with my favorite posts from 2013 that YOU submitted for ME.
Are these the best posts? I think there’s no wrong or right answer. What I like may be totally different than what you like. But these posts are the ones that resonated with me the most (for reasons I’ll provide).
Let’s start with a little laughter, head into parenting, and finish with a little perspective and inspiration.
Best Explanation of How Fashion Advertising REALLY Works by MLP at I Miss You When I Blink
Who is this MLP and didn’t she have some posts on here last year? I was through Blogmas 2012 that I fell in love with MLP’s sardonic wit. Maybe I didn’t tell you this but it takes a lot for me to laugh out loud. And this post made me do it. Maybe it’s simply because I love it when people make fun of the ridiculous world of advertising (Marcia was my favorite).
Best Post to Make You Leery of Ever Eating Fish Again by Cindy Reed at The Reedster Speaks
Cindy Reed, aka The Reedster, writes like she talks, which makes reading her post about trying a new fish make me feel like I was out to dinner with her and her husband. Even though I wasn’t, I’m still not sure I’ll eat delicious triggerfish ever again. Thanks, Cindy.
Best Post on the Internet About a Stuffed Bunny by Kristin Shaw at Two Cannoli
You know what the worst part is about your kids growing up? THEY’RE GROWING UP. This is the post that will make you want to cuddle your little one forever, even if your little one is 17 years old.
Best Post to Make You Want to Pull a Paul Harvey and Find Out the Rest of the Story. And Then Realize That You Will Need Kleenex. More Than The Used One You Have Balled Up in Your Purse by Kimberly Crumby at A Weeping Christian: When Faith and Grief Collide
This was a new blog for me and thus took me completely by surprise. I read this once. Then read it again to make sure I was understanding. And then, yes, I did seek out the rest of the story. (Big hugs to you, Kimberly).
Best Post for Those Who Love a Good Tearjerker by Jessica Cohen at Eat Sleep Be
Don’t be scared of this one. Sometimes tears are happy tears, which is what this post delivers. It’s also a good reminder that you don’t always know all the battles someone is facing.
Best “Knowledge is Power” Post by Amanda Rodriguez at Dude Mom
Whether you have kids with special needs or not, here’s a post that gives perspective on how special needs is a very broad term and how you don’t need to try to fix it all.
Best Use of the Word Uterus in a Headline by Angela England at Untrained Housewife
I’m one of those moms that see a parent with lots of kids and thinks how in the world do they manage? Sometimes, as is my nature, I might even crack a joke about it. This post by Angela made me rethink the impact of my words, even in jest.
Best Reason to Kill an Overused Hashtag by Shell Things at Things I Can’t Say
If you’ve ever been to my blog, you know I’m a fan of self-deprecating humor. Mainly because it just comes so easily to me. But sometimes, what we say about being a mom reflects not only us but how other mothers think about themselves.
Best Post To Make You Think Twice About Being So Busy by Jo-Lynne Shane at Jo-Lynne Shane
Do you have those friends that are always so busy? And do you feel the need to assure them you are just as busy… if not BUSIER? Jo-Lynne does a wonderful job of giving perspective to this weird competition we often find ourselves in.
Best Post About Becoming Me by MJ at 154 Hidden Court
I should have retitled this “best post to make you want to quit your job, tear off your clothes, and be FREE!” But there was no nudity involved in this post. Just a woman’s rebirth that was beautiful to read about. (And introverts unite!)
Best Post to Get the Internet to Hate You and Assume You are a Prude Who is Uncomfortable With the Female Physique (which is far from the truth anyway) by Erica Voll at No Sleep Til College
I actually read this post months ago because I had the exact same experience. I’m no prude and I celebrate women’s bodies (all shapes and sizes) but I don’t need to be explaining half naked women at a 6 year old’s eye level on a quick trip to the grocery store. So preach it, Erica.
Best Post to Inspire Beyonce to Write a Song About YOU by Zadry Ferrer-Geddes at Curves a la Mode
Who’s Hilda? Probably the most famous pin-up you’ve never heard of. But once you see Hilda’s lust for life, her curves will only be secondary to her persona.
Best Post That Makes Me Cry Every Freakin’ Time, But in a Good Way, Because Death is Okay by Oren Miller at A Blogger and A Father
I know you’re worried by that title. But if you’ve even had to figure out how to love your dogs and your kids at the same time, you know that your first babies will always be your babies, even until the very end.
Post That Reminded Me How Fragile I Am
This is my post. I’ve had lots of fun writing over the past year. I made fun videos and reviewed fun products and took fun trips. But there’s work involved and sometimes that work, and kind of your whole sense of purpose, needs a little validation. I happened to get that at the most inconvenient time.
It’s a lot of reading but I know you won’t be disappointed.
Tomorrow, come back and read the next installment of the Blogmas Best of 2013 submitted by YOU!
