And now for something completely different
I certainly like some girly things but I’d never expect anyone to get me clothes or shoes or purses for Christmas. I’m happy to buy those things for myself. What I do want is something thoughtful, unusual, and most likely not available at the local mall. If that describes you or someone you have to shop for, you might like a few of these items.
The Thing You Want |
Why You Want It |

It’s simply and sleek and pretty. It’s also a conversation starter everywhere I go. “Is that some sort of watch?” Yes, it is. And it’s a fitness tracker that is simply perfect for my use. The device itself (a little bigger than a quarter) fits into your pocket, a wristband (as seen here), a necklace – you name it. It’s waterproof, tracks my sleep, syncs with my iPhone, and yes, it even tells time. Beautiful and functional for around $80.
LEGO set aren’t just for kids. I mean, sure, we buy the big sets so we can “help” our kids put them together but I say it’s time to admit it to yourself. You want your own damn set! For me, the more complex the better. I’ve got my eye on the Volkswagen Camper Van for around $120.
We live on a farm. Well, we live in a suburban community that sits on land that was once a farm. That’s close enough, right? As I’ve gotten older, I’ve taken a new interest in history and I’m hoping that a metal detector will help me uncover civil war bullets, gold coins, and pull tabs from soda cans from the 70s. Note: Santa might have picked this up from BJs a few months ago to save for Christmas and it might just be much cheaper now on Amazon (around $62).
I met Velodyne at Blogger Bash in NYC in July. I almost passed them by because their table was always crowded. But a quick conversation and I realized I had been doing the treadmill all wrong. I had sports earbuds but the wire was always in the way and I had to have a place to put my phone. With these bluetooth wireless headphones, I can park my phone, turn on my audiobook (cuz I’m nerdy like that) and walk til my heart’s content. A steal right now at just over $60.
Oh yes, I did go there. I suggested a vacuum. For Christmas. But a word of caution, only someone who truly appreciates vacuuming will be excited by this present. I happen to be one of them but I already have one. If you don’t believe me, check out my thoughts on why this vacuum is pretty amazing.
Things you might not know about me: I like to dance in the privacy of my own home. Things you should know about me: I dance in the privacy of my own home because I’m so bad at it. But as long as we’re confessing, I have 4 or 5 different versions of Just Dance. It’s not only a good workout but it also helps me keep up with “what the kids are listening to.” Ubisoft sent me this copy for review but you’ll find it for around $40 for different game systems.
Hey, when I dream, I dream big. After seeing 3D printing technology in person and hearing the story of Turbo Roo, I was sold. And then finding out the technology is available for consumer purchase at Best Buy, I realized that dream may someday be a reality. But you have to have a cool grand (around $1000) to snag one of these (currently sold out online).
Oh, this one’s mysterious. It probably won’t work for the man in your life but it’s PERFECT for the flat-haired woman in your life. No, I’m serious. I’m one of those flat-haired women and this thing is life-changing. Or hair-changing at the very least. Selling for around $130 right now. If you’re intrigued, take a look at my full review!!

I’ve tried three different “we ship the ingredients and recipes and you make the meals” services and Hello Fresh is by far my favorite. It’s a weekly (or less) service that delivers fresh ingredients for three meals. You pick with meat or without, the number of people you’re ordering for, and you even get to choose your recipes. For roughly $60 per week, this is truly the gift for someone who has everything. And the recipes are yummy! |
Happy Shopping!
