Let’s say you have fine hair. Or you have thin hair. Or fine, thin hair. Or thinning hair. Maybe you’re born with it or maybe the advancing years and chemical treatments have finally caught up with you. What can you do to change it or fix it or mask it?
Clearly, it’s a hot topic because there are a lot of proposed solutions out there for women with hair like mine. There are pills (vitamin supplements), powders, oils, and really expensive shampoo.
I’ve always shied away from a lot of these solutions mainly because I didn’t want to start some type of treatment and have to maintain it over and over or have my hair go back to falling out. Yes, it’s a bit of a fear of commitment. But it doesn’t mean I’m not open to trying new things.
As a member of iFabbo, I get invitations from time to time to try new beauty products. I pick and choose and then have it shipped to my house with the promise that I’ll do a review. And when I do a beauty review, I make sure I do two things:
- I make sure I use the product long enough to get a fair and accurate impression of it (usually a minimum of two weeks).
- I give you an honest opinion for me. Some beauty products are tough to review because they really work differently for different people.
But new beauty products are kind of like Christmas morning to me. I love to dive right in and unless it’s horrible, I keep up with it until two weeks is up. Or I just stay with it if I like it.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working with a shampoo and conditioner from a company called Keranique. The product offering is what they call the Keranique Clean & Condition Set. The promise, or rather the suggestion, is that you’ll see thicker, fuller looking hair. I’ll be the judge of that.
Oh yes. That’s me using it in the shower. I mean, how else am I supposed to show you this product?
The bottle suggests you massage the shampoo into your scalp and let it sit for 1 – 2 minutes and warns that there might be some tingling action. I actually only have felt the tingle a few times. Maybe it depends on how deeply I rub it into my scalp.
The conditioner suggests the same thing. Work it into your hair, from scalp to the ends and let it sit for 1 – 2 minutes. So I did.
Conditioner is a must-have for people with fine hair and I was hoping it would also do a good job detangling.
You’re actually seeing one of my oldest possessions: my 1980s hair pick that I bought at a beauty salon in my hometown
After getting out of the shower, my hair felt fine. Nothing special and I was able to rake that comb through my hair delicately. So I continued this routine for several weeks (and I’m still continuing). And I really took a look at my hair. I went to the best lighting in the house – the powder room downstairs – and grabbed a few pics of my hair from all angles to decide if I could really see a difference.
The Scalp Stimulating Shampoo for Thinning Hair is supposed to:
- Retain shine
- Provide combability, detangling & smoothing without weighing the hair down
- Remove build-up
- Protect against cuticle damage
- Provide a healthy way of keeping hair fuller and thicker looking
The Volumizing Keratin Conditioner for Thinning Hair is supposed to:
- Condition and volumize fine hair
- Improve manageability, combability, detangling & conditioning without weighing the hair down
- Not create a heavy, waxy feeling on the hair and scalp
- Add body and volume.
- Improve hair strength and provides anti-breakage protection.
My honest opinion
I liked the shampoo and conditioner. I liked that it’s sulfate free which means it won’t fade my (almost natural) haircolor. I like that my hair looked shiny and fuller and it did seem like I had less hair falling out than usual.
But it’s not a cheap product. It’s $49.95 for the set but if you already use higher end shampoo and conditioner (I do), you probably won’t have sticker shock.
The only things you need to know in addition to what I’ve told you…
The shampoo is in the light colored bottle and the conditioner is in the dark colored bottle. That’s wrong, right? Isn’t it always the other way around? And I did need to use more than the recommended “small amount” for my hair. But that’s pretty typical for me and conditioner.
I’ll keep using it and let you know if something miraculous happens with my hair but otherwise I’d say this is a good solid product.

My hair is the exact opposite – thick and coarse! And the older I get, the more it becomes like straw! It’s hard to find just the right products to use on it.
Having even thinner and finer hair than you(think it gets thicker with each generation), I am always in search of hair enhancing products. This looks good, a little pricey and your hair looks great, BUT, here is a product I found: Rusk Deep Shine Color Smooth Sulfate-Free Shampoo for Unisex, 8.5 Ounce, Amazon’s price $10.67. It has given my hair shine and appears thicker. I have yet to try the conditioner with it, waiting until my current one(Joico) is empty, but am expecting similar results. The key to both may be sulfate-free. Another line I would love to try is the WEN products, they also make miraculous claims.
I have the same kind of hair and am looking for a good product too. Not sure I want to spend that kind of money for a meh result though… thanks for your honest feedback!
