Move over, gym bros! There’s a protein powder for us! Ella Beauty Protein Powder from Naked Nutrition gives you everything you need to look great and feel great from the inside out.
As women, we can about looking lean and maintaining muscle mass, especially as we get older. We actually lose 30 to 50 percent of our muscle mass between the ages of 40 and 80. For that reason alone, I’ve been steadily increasing my protein intake over the past year.
Not only do I get it from natural sources but also through supplements, my favorite brand being Naked Nutrition. (Read some of my Easy Protein Hacks here). They make traditional protein powders, pre and post workout supplements, and really accessible products like Naked Cake mix and Naked Brownie mix.
But women need more than protein. We have a lot of special needs and wants. That’s where the Ella Beauty Protein Mix comes in.
What’s in the Ella Beauty Protein Powder?
The Ella Beauty Protein Powder starts with protein (20g as a matter of fact!) and ends with zero sugar or artificial sweeteners and lots of things that help improve aspects of outward beauty.
Ingredients include:
Ella Beauty Protein Blend
This is a proprietary blend of Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen Peptides– protein that provides structure and strength to skin, bones, and muscles, improves skin health and elasticity, relieves joint pain, prevents bone loss, and boosts muscle mass, Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein – rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and minerals, and Organic Chia Seed Protein – an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, iron, and calcium.
MCT Powder
This powder uses MCT Oil – also known as medium-chain triglycerides, and Acacia, both of which provide anti-inflammatory benefits, among other health benefits.
Pink Himalayan Salt
Similar to table salt, Pink Himalayan Salt is natural and contains trace minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
Ella Beauty Multi-Vitamin Blend
This blend uses Vitamin C, Zinc Gluconate – both of which support your immune system, and Biotin which is a B complex valuable in converting energy and known to support hair, skin, and nails. Together, they support collagen production.
Fermented Cane Sugar
Wait – isn’t that sugar? Kind of. Fermented sugar breaks down most of the calorie-containing compounds so it’s a perfect addition to a healthy drink.
Better than Collagen?
Great question. I will tell you that I bought a collagen supplement a few years ago, tried it once, and gave it to my neighbor. I couldn’t handle it. This is perfect because you get collagen and more in one drink. Add it to water and shake, No need to hide it in a drink it doesn’t belong in.
Because Naked Nutrition also sells just a collagen supplement, I thought it would be best if they explain the difference between Naked Collagen and Ella Beauty Protein Powder:
“Naked Collagen only has one ingredient – collagen peptides to provide structural support to joints and skin, and improve gut health. Ella Beauty Protein combines collagen with organic seed protein and other beauty-boosting ingredients like hyaluronic acid, biotin, zinc, and vitamin C to support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Naked Collagen is unflavored collagen peptides, while Ella Beauty Protein comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors. Both Naked Collagen and Ella Beauty Protein are completely free of additives and artificial sweeteners.”
But how does it taste?
As I mentioned above, I tried added unflavored collagen powder to a drink and I just. could. not. get it down. The Ella Beauty Protein Powder comes in flavors – chocolate and vanilla!
I chose vanilla because I’m more of a vanilla girl and envision ways that I can dress it up.
The directions:
Add one serving (two scoops) of powder to 8-12 oz of cold water. Blend or shake in a shaker cup.
The way I prepared it:
I used my Vitamix blender and added some ice and filled it with water to the 12 oz mark. Then I added two scoops of the powder and blended like crazy.
I like to let it then sit for a few minutes to let the powder rehydrate before drinking. You will still have some separation even after letting it sit for a minute or two so I drink it with a straw to keep it well mixed.
The first sip was exceptionally sweet so i was glad I used the larger amount of water. But overall, I enjoyed the taste and was surprised at how immediately full I felt (this was my first “meal” of the day).
In the future, I plan to experiment by using almond milk and maybe adding a few frozen strawberries.
