What are the things you hope people say about your hair? That it’s thick and lustrous? Or maybe you hope that they simply say it’s combed and the grays aren’t showing.
In fact, these are the biggest problems that I face with aging hair. Well, okay, it’s not the combing part (although truth be told I rarely comb it, I brush it). My hair is thinning so I want it to look thick. I’d like to have my scalp not showing. I’d like it to have beautiful, consistent color (which mine does every 4-6 weeks, thank you very much). I’d like the grays to quietly go back from whence they came. And I’d like my hair to be shiny. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
It seems that as women age, we become a marketer’s dream. They try to sell us every anti-aging product out there. It might be a gravity-defying bra or stomach flattening shape wear or the latest chemical concoction to turn back time on our skin. But it’s our hair that often gets ignored unless it’s a desperate call to the hairdresser.
A lifetime of heat styling, styling products, bleaches, dyes, and, yes, even perms, takes its toll. There’s hope and help to take back your hair through the Living Proof Timeless™ Collection available exclusively at Ulta Beauty.
The collection consists of four products that intend to science up your hair by using some of these ingredients:
- Amino acids to help help strengthen and fortify hair strands
- Ceramide-like lipids to keep the cuticle sealed and smooth to the touch
- OF PMA + proteins which means nothing to me but this “Healthy Hair Molecule” controls moisture flux, keeps hair strong and repels dirt and oil so hair stays cleaner, longer
Want to know what the products are? I’ve got the lowdown right here.
Living Proof Timeless Pre-Shampoo Treatment
This is a leave-in treatment to use before every shampoo. It seals in your color and provides UV protection. It’s recommended to start using in your 30s.
Living Proof Timeless Shampoo and Conditioner
Great for color-treated hair because it’s sulfate-free and silicone-free. Both the shampoo and conditioner are lightweight and help to retexturize dry hair.
Living Proof Timeless Plumping Mousse
This was the only product that I didn’t personally care for. It does what it says – plumps each individual strand to make your hair look thicker and fuller. With finer hair, it changed the texture for me. While I enjoyed the fullness, my collection felt more complete after simply using the pre-shampoo treatment, and shampoo and conditioner.

I love Living Proof’s moisturizing shampoo. I need to combine it with Moroccan Oil every few weeks, but it smells nice and keeps my hair from being totally crazy.
Is your hair naturally dry or is it from processing? Surprisingly, I don’t have many issues. If anything, it’s trying to keep it oil free so it doesn’t get super flat!

I’m in love with Living Proof products and use the Perfect Hair Day line. I’m obsessed with the curling cream, too. It’s the only one that gives me hold without getting crunchy.
OMG… I feel like this is my blog! I share your daily struggles about thin, fine hair. I discovered you while researching the American Wave.
The only products I use, despite a multitude of attempts of others is living proof. My hairdresser wants to try others and they hold for 10 minutes and then flatsville!
Thanks for your advice and look forward to reading more from you!

Okay, I hope you get this response! I will tell you that my hair has definitely changed with age. As I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten thinner but has more body. And I’ve learned to master a blow dryer and a flat iron. I work *with* my hair as opposed to against it. My hair doesn’t want to hold curls so I don’t make it! If you find something that works, definitely stick with it!
