Guess what? We made through a whole year. And some of you made it through a whole year of blogging. To that, I say CONGRATULATIONS! That’s no small feat.
But as is usual for the first day of a new year, I’m thinking about the changes to come. I’m thinking about the changes that will happen and the changes that we want to happen. One thing I want is a little bit of change right here in my corner of the blogosphere. Nothing major. Just small, simple, streamlined.
This is the new stream of consciousness SUNDAY. Every week for the next year, we’ll be writing for 5 minutes (sometimes more) and linking up here so we can all feel read and supported, even when it’s our most unstructured thoughts.
The changes? I’m going to be offering a writing prompt. It’s totally optional. I just know that sometimes I do my best writing when someone gives me a little nudge. Give me a topic an I can write. Leave me alone with my thoughts and sometimes I freeze up.
If you want to do your own thing, that’s totally okay. Sometimes we have things that just need to come out. But if you’re stuck? Or you want more of a challenge, you can come here at the start of Sunday (12am ET) and find a prompt.
The rest stays the same. You write for 5 minutes. It’s okay to correct a misspelled word here and there. The main point is not to edit it and not to think too hard while you’re writing it. Open your mind and dump your brain. Good luck!
Today’s Writing Prompt: Write about the things you don’t want to change in 2012
Here we go…
—
When it comes to New Year’s Day, we always think we have a clean slate. FOr some reason, it’s much easier to start anew on that day than on the day before.
Why is that? I think it’s kind of like a line in the sand. We have a deadline. A day that means we can do it all wrong and not feel any guilt because we know we will change and it will get better if we can just make it to that day.
There are plenty of things I want to change. Like most of you, it has something to do with eating healthier, losing weight, getting more active, yada, yada, yada. And THIS year will be different, right?
There are also plenty of things I don’t want to change and as I reflect on 2011 and head into 2012, that’s what I’m focusing on.
1. I’ve kept up with my writing. I write around 4 times a week here and 2 times a week on Social Dialect. Good job, me 🙂
2. I’ve unintentionally ended up helping quite a few bloggers and I really, really like doing that. I’m no expert but I really love to encourage and support other bloggers.
3. I’m doing a really good job with my son. I can’t take all the credit but he’s smart, personable, usually happy, and growing like a weed. I think I’m doing something right.
4. I’ve become a better cook. We ate at home more and I’m doing a better job of making healthier meals at home. Most of the time.
5. I’m decluttering my life. Just as I go through my entire house to clear out and get ready to sell, I find there is even more than I can live without. I like that. I’m going to keep that up.
My time is up but there you go. Five things I’m doing right and I’ll keep it going in 2012. I’ll worry about the exercise and stuff next week.

I’m not starting up again until the sixth but I think I shall join in at that point. I love decluttering. We’re in the process of getting rid of more stuff, too.
It’s neverending. Every time I clear out space and feel better, I’m overwhelmed by my desire to shop. Must break the cycle.
you have helped so many more than you know, i’m sure. me included. i love the prompt idea…and the openness to not do it if i don’t wanna. i appreciate that. happy new year!
I love reading your posts every week. I always know you’ll have something good to say, prompt or not.
Happy New Year! I also have been trying to declutter the past twelve months and plan to do even more in 2012..its so easy to get caught up with ‘needing’ things, when in reality, life can be so much simpler without! Love the prompt idea and thanks for keeping the link-up going, it makes for great Sunday reading 🙂
I think it’s good to get the writing juices flowing and clear your head a bit.Â
Happy new year Fadra! I love your new button and idea! You have helped and been so insuring to many bloggers, me of course!!! I wish only the best for the coming year!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m glad you’re still here! I love it when you link up!
Awesome one! I had posted today (Sunday evening here now) so I’ll join in tomorrow if that’s ok? 🙂
Absolutely! The linky stays open all week!
Great prompt! I wish I would have looked here before I wrote my SOC. Congratulations on your 5 amazing victories! You mean quite a bit to a lot of people! Happy 2012!
I know. The prompt is new and I knew it would throw a few people off. Maybe I should tweet it the night before too.
I love this prompt! The new badge is super, too! Happy New Year, Fadra! I hope it’s your best yet!Â
Thank you, thank you! I think we ALL deserve a great year!
Super idea for a prompt! And, as one of the bloggers you have helped, I must say THANK YOU! And Happy New Year!
Awww, thank you for thanking me!! Makes me feel good 🙂
Cool idea for having a prompt! I usually have an idea of what I’m going to write about but sometimes it is truly just a brain dump and I feel like I ramble too much. So a prompt may be helpful sometimes.
Also so important to remember what is going well in our lives as we think about things we want to improve! Thanks for the reminder!! Happy new year! 🙂
I’m with you. Sometimes I like a prompt and sometimes I let it all spill out. Either way works for me.
You forgot to mention hosting an awesome link up each and every Sunday. 🙂
Thank you for hosting the SOC as its a weekly ritual for me.
All the best in 2012!
Oh yeah. I forgot to mention my complete and total awesomeness. For my link up anyway 😉
Happy 2012! Thank you for hosting this each week, it’s helped me more than you can imagine. I like the prompt idea and the option of just rambling and dumping my head out onto the screen. I really liked writing today with the thought of “I’ve done some things right so I want to continue doing them” instead of the usual “It’s new year’s, time to fix all the things I did wrong.”
I really love this, Fadra. And I’ve personally benefited from your #2, so I’m glad to hear others will have the opportunity to benefit from that, too. The new SOCSunday look is great!
I loved helping you and I feel like a proud mama when I see all the hard work you’re putting into your blog!
Thanks. By the way, I bought Thesis earlier this week. I’m having fun playing with the new site and hoping to have it up and running before Blissdom!
I kind of already did this for my last post of 2011, but I love the idea of Stream of Consciousness Sunday and look forward to participating!
Stop back anytime!
