Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday…

(I know we skipped Sunday but even God takes a day off once in a while.)

Let’s keep it going with WEIRD WEDNESDAY.

This is the day we share weird but true things. Ready? This should be fun.

Weird Fact #1 : I can touch my tongue to my nose.

Yes, I know. This is not the most flattering shot of me. But I had to prove it. Also, I think this is a genetic trait because my son can do the same thing. Apparently only 10% of the population can do this. I guess that makes be weird but special.

Weird Fact #2: I can wiggle my ear.

But only my right ear. Again, here’s proof.

I randomly found this information on the internet. No citation so who knows if it’s true. But again, I think it makes me weird AND special.

The general consensus is that the ability to wiggle your ears is thanks to one gene, which has been turned off for some people, though, most of us don’t naturally know how to wiggle our ears voluntarily, even if we had the gene.

Weird Fact #3: My tongue gets burned after eating kiwi and pineapple.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to show you another picture of my tongue. But apparently I’m not alone in this phenomenon.

It’s because it’s acidic, right? Wrong. I found another random internet fact to explain this.

Surprisingly, it’s not because of the acidity of the fruit. Fresh pineapple contains enzymes that are commonly extracted and used in meat tenderizers, and the effect of the enzyme on your tongue causes the prickling.

It’s all weird stuff, isn’t it? I’d love to hear how you’re weird (not not too weird). And get your kids in on the action.

Weird Wednesday is actually inspired by National Geographic Kids, for whom I’m an Insider. Evan and I have had to chance to look at their magazines and books and the “Weird But True” is his absolute favorite.

We plowed through the book Weird But True! 5 from them in a matter of days after I returned from BlogHer this year.

Weird But True! 5

Some gems for you to share with your kids…

Camels originally came from North America. What?

A study found that the more afraid you are of spiders, the bigger they appear to be. True. I can vouch for this one.

A company in England created cheese-scented perfume. I love me some cheese but…

Now join in the fun here or across social media by declaring your weirdness loud and proud and with the hashtag #WeirdWednesday!
