Looking for goat whey protein powder? One of my favorite brands, Naked Nutrition, now has Naked Goat, a goat whey protein powder. But if you’re like me, you didn’t even know that goat whey protein existed and more importantly, WHY you’d want to consider it! All your goat whey protein questions answered now!
The Importance of Protein
Let’s talk about why you need protein in the first place, although if you’re here, I suspect you know that anyway. Protein is a key macronutrient used in the following critical ways.
Protein is used to build just about every substance in your body from the obvious things like bones, muscles, hair, and nails to more behind-the-scenes stuff like organ walls and cartilage. In addition to helping build all of these substances, it also helps repair them. It’s why so many people up their protein intake while strength training. All that lifting causing small tears in the muscles and protein comes in to repair it, making your muscles bigger in the process.
Increased protein intake is especially important for peri- and post-menopausal woman as changes in hormones make us prone to muscle loss, weight gain and changes in blood sugar. Increasing protein can help will all of these. The trick is getting in enough protein.
You’ll find so many source out there that quote daily protein requirements on both the high and low end. Some fitness influencers will recommend 1g of protein for each pound of ideal body weight. Do the math. That’s a LOT of protein. A more reasonable goal from longevity studies is closer to 0.54 – 0.72 grams per pound of body weight. Chances are that’s still quite a bit lower than you’re already getting. And for that reason, a lot of people supplement with whey protein powders.
(Note: if you’re a vegan, you can still supplement with pea protein powders.)
Not All Whey is Created Equal
When you’re making cheese, you basically curdle the milk. The curds are the solids that are typically used to make cheese and the whey is the liquid that’s leftover. And it’s chock full of protein. It’s this whey that is converted to whey powder and found in most supplements.
Much like any dairy product you consume, you should always consider the source. If it’s coming from cows, like most whey powders, you’ll want to know how those cows are treated. I’ve been using Naked Nutrition products for years and their typical whey comes from small non-GMO dairy farms where the cows are grass-fed, free roaming, and raised without hormones like rBGH or rBST.
You have even more choices now when considering a protein powder. While there are classic whey powders (like the one I used for my High Protein Iced Coffee Latte), those that have more digestive sensitivities may want to look at whey protein isolate (like Clear Naked Whey) or even goat whey protein powder.
Why Goat Whey Protein?
If you have any digestive sensitivities, goat whey protein may be a good choice for you. It’s naturally lower in lactose and is more easily tolerated by many people. In fact, research has found that goat whey forms smaller clumps in your stomach than the cow-based whey which makes it pass through your digestive tract easier.
But wait! There’s more! Goat whey protein also contains a dietary fiber called oligosaccharides which act as prebiotics – substances that support the growth of health bacteria in your gut. Again, this is good news for your digestive system.
The only problem is… that it comes from goats. The idea was a little weird for me at first but then I realized that goat’s milk is already in my life. I’m a big fan of feta cheese and goat cheese. So if you don’t have a problem with the taste that goes along with goat’s milk, your digestive system might thank you for going G.O.A.T.!
Making My Favorite Goat Whey Protein Smoothie
Here’s how I like to use the Naked Goat Chocolate Goat Whey Protein Powder for easy digestion.
- 2 scoops Naked Goat Chocolate Goat Whey Protein Powder
- 1 banana
- 10 oz. unsweetened original almond milk
- Ice
Add 10 oz. of almond milk to your blender (I use a Vitamix). Add two scoops of Naked Goat. I set my blender container on a digital scale (like this one) to measure my protein powder by weight. Break the peeled banana in half and add to the blender. Add about 2 oz. of ice.
Blend on high for 2-3 minutes until smooth with no ice chunks. Pour and enjoy!
Naked Goat: The Naked Nutrition Difference
As I mentioned above, sources and ingredients matter. So if you are looking for Goat Whey Protein, here’s why you want to look at Naked Nutrition.
The goat whey protein used in Naked Goat is sourced from pasture-raised goats on small-herd Wisconsin dairies. They also use cold processing to create non-denatured goat whey so you get clean protein loaded with essential amino acids and other beneficial nutrients.
And when you order Naked Goat, it has just one ingredient: Goat Whey Protein Concentrate. If you’re using it in protein shakes, you’ll probably want to try to Chocolate or Vanilla flavor, both of which add only Coconut Sugar, and a natural flavor like Organic Cacao Powder.
Whatever your protein choices, I always recommend Naked Nutrition for their clean ingredients!
