Hard to believe that just last week I was talking about feeling so fat. That was last week, right? I’m trying to get more disciplined in my life. I’m eating better. I’m exercising. I’m trying to read blogs more regularly (did you notice that I commented on every single entry last week?)
Today’s post comes compliments of my son who’s playing Playmobil in the same room as me right now. He’s playing with his knights and pirates and pulls out the jug that comes with the set and promptly refers to it as “a bottle of Jack.” Here’s how that came to be.

I couldn’t be more thrilled at how I’m feeling this week. A little tired? Yes. Still a little fat? Yes. But I have to tell you. I feel better. I crave more water to drink. I have more energy. I might be tired but I’m not totally exhausted like I need a nap every afternoon that I’m never going to get.
And the best part? I’ve actually been exercising. Consistently!
I don’t mean that I took the dog for a short walk so she could go to the bathroom and passed it off as exercise. I’ve been sweating and getting my heartrate up and I don’t hate it!!!
What’s my secret…
Is it Jillian and her 30 day shred?
Is it P90x or whatever?
Nope. It’s dancing.
I am not a natural born dancer. In fact, I have no dance abilities whatsoever. I even took a dance class for fun and could have swron I was looking at Frankenstein doing hip hop. But it’s still fun to do even though I look horrible and I can’t ever seem to get a sense of the rhythm of the song.
But I’ve married my love of video games and pseudo-dancing and I’ve been doing Just Dance 2. I love it. I totally love it. I’m not any better at dancing. I’m trying to get my hips to actually sway once in a while. But I am definitely breaking sweat and it doesn’t feel like exercise. What?!?
So what’s the problem? The downside? Well, my 4 year old son has been dancing and exercising with me. And I love it. I pick a song and then he picks a song. Sometimes he dances. Sometimes he watches me. He’s young enough and doesn’t know that Mommy is making a fool of herself.
His favorite song choice, though, is always, always Ke$ha singing Tik Tok. It’s got a good beat. You can dance to it. I’m just having a hard time explaining to him why he can’t brush his teeth with “a bottle of Jack.”

Oh man!! It sucks that they don’t have a “kid friendly” set of songs that you could pick from.
Of course, those kid friendly songs are usually pretty annoying, and not great for dancing.
At least you are getting some exercise in, right?
I love to dance too! But I try to keep it in my house, because I am completely rythmless. And my daughter is just now getting to the point where she no longer things my dancing is cool and fun, but instead she is making comments and trying to give me tips and hints. That is kind of sad.
Enjoy the comment free dancing!! It doesn’t last forever.
That’s hilarious. At least it wasn’t Eminem.
I love it. I need to dance more, too. I think I would like that Wii game. We have kids dance…not as fun.
This made me laugh out loud. And hey, if girlfriend wants to dance in her own house with just her 4yo for an audience, who’s to judge the quality?? I really believe there’s *some* kind of physical activity/sport for everyone that resonates enough to get us moving, and sounds like you found yours. Fantastic.
That is SO cute! When my youngest was about four my husband would listen to The Bob and Tom Show while taking him to pre-school. It was a short drive, but obviously he still absorbed a bit of the content. I picked him up one day and his teacher pulled me aside to tell me he’d been teacher the other kids a new song: Bee -Double-Ee-Double-Ar-You-In . . . Beer Run! Not one of my proudest parenting moments 😉
That is awesome! Shake that booty!
That is awesome! Shake that booty!
Now that made me laugh out loud!! Leave it to Evan to ask…
Love that you found something that you can workout with – yay! 🙂 Now I just need to get on board with that again. This week, I swear.
And as many times as I’ve heard that song, I never considered brushing my teeth with the bottle of jack. Funny!
Ok I’ve read so many of these, I think I’m ready to participate. Do I need to have an established blog to do so?? B/c I don’t and I am soooo not computer/techno savvy. In fact, I have probably forgotten more about technology in the last 6 hrs. Of motherhood than I ever knew!! However, I truly feel I need an outlet and writing may just be ” it” for me. I was never a spelling or grammar whiz, so please forgive my mis-spelled words and improper use, and/or lack of punctuation! My mother did all of my spelling and grammar homework throughout jr and sr high (consider this my first true confession… Of many more to come, if I can figure this damn thing out But I am sure all of you sweet rockin’ mammas and daddies will be quick to help me out!,! ( please, please, I promise to tell you all of my deep dark secretes, well most of them at least. Wow, look at that, it’s been 5 mins!! Not so hard after all. And fun to boot!!
Haha! My 2 1/2 year old likes to say “baby got back.” Thank you husband of mine.
I noticed you were a comment queen last week!
My kids make awesome dance buddies. And singing buddies. And adventure buddies. And art buddies. Love love love my kidlets to create alongside me. There truly is no better way.
I’m stoked that you are in that feel good zone from exercising consistently…keep it up, girl!
My kid is always singing that d@mn Kesha song. Gah!
I love all of the Just Dances. It is a workout without being one.
Good luck,
-r
