Do you know what the worst part is of being a woman over 40?
If you said, fine lines, sagging skin, night sweats, hormonal swings, and difficulty sleeping, I’d say YOU’RE CLOSE (awfully close) but not quite there. The absolute worst part of being a woman over 40 is this thing called a metabolism. Because it suddenly comes to a screeching halt.
I’ve never been a super healthy eater but I certainly try. I did the Whole30 in January. I’m getting ready to start the keto reset diet (and by getting ready, I mean I’m thinking about it for January). And I’ve never been super athletic. Oh, who am I kidding? I’ve never even been slightly athletic.
But when you reach the ripe old age of over 40 (we don’t need to go into specifics of age here), everything changes. You can keep working out and eating healthy and your body will still revolt. You’ll still gain weight in places you’ve never had to worry about. And it just plain sucks.
I’ll admit there are times when it’s tempting to just say, Welp, this is Fadra 2.0. Guess I’m going to have to live this way. But most of the time, I’m trying to balance eating healthy with eating good (they aren’t mutually exclusive, by the way). I’m trying to balance staying active with just comfortably relaxing on the couch. So yes, I’m fighting it all in the name of aging gracefully.
This time of year is especially important to stay hypervigilant because life is about to hand us a one-two punch (actually a one-two-three punch, if I’m being honest).
Halloween is right around the corner. My husband bought all of our Halloween candy when he was last up in Hershey. Except he left it in his car and it all melted and reformed. I can’t let him give out mangled candy to kids so we’ve been slowly polishing it off.
I did just spend the weekend in Hershey so I picked up replacement candy for Halloween but I also picked up some Strawberry Kit Kats, which I’m convinced is manna straight from heaven. My waistline is convinced it’s straight from hell.
Just a few short weeks after Halloween is my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. While it’s a wonderful time for family and friends to gather and be thankful for what the year has brought them, it’s also the time for some serious indulgence. Yes, I will have a second helping of mashed potatoes, thank you very much.
In a cruel twist of fate, we have about four weeks after Thanksgiving where we forget what “calories” mean. We suddenly become bakers and shovel cookies and cakes in our mouth at every chance we get.
How to Avoid the Holiday ONE-TWO-THREE Punch
Here are a few simple tips:
- Stop shoving everything into your face. Out of sight is out of mind so get it out of the house or put it on the top shelf of the pantry.
- Eating really well on the days where you aren’t participating in a holiday indulgence.
- GET MOVING!
See? I told you it was simple. And if you need a motivator for #3, I’ve got just the thing. While you’re at Target preparing for all of the holiday cooking, cleaning, and shopping, pick up a little something for yourself.
C9 Champion® (available at Target) sent me two of their new products that I fully plan to use this fall to motivate me to GET MOVING. Whether it’s walking my dogs, or going to yoga class, or dancing to the new Just Dance 2018 (review coming soon!), or finally trying that new kickboxing class I signed up for (Lord, help me), I plan to at least try to rev my metabolism so that I sprint my way through the holidays feeling good.
Check out the C9 Champion® Embrace Run Tight, which retails for $34.99 and the C9 Champion® Tech Fleece Full Zip, which sells for $32.99. Because it’s easier to be active when you’re cute and stylish. Am I right?
