Believe it or not, I have a very style conscious kid. Not when it comes to his clothes, mind you. He is a boy after all. Unless it’s a comfortable t-shirt and athletic shorts, he’s not interested. In fact, I took him to tennis lessons the other day with him wearing an ORANGE shirt and RED and BLACK shorts.
Yes, I’m cringing even as I type that. But he has a sense of humor about it. He created a label and affixed it to his shirt stating “Orange is the New Yellow.”
Did I mention he’s a clever little bugger? Takes after his mom.
He is, however, pretty style-conscious when it comes to me. I’d like to think it’s because I took him shopping as a very young age. I still remember his 2 year old self bouncing around the Liz Claiborne outlet saying, “Ooh, that’s cute. And that’s cute. And this is cute.”
When I ask for his opinion, he gives it to me. And he’s usually dead on. When I try on something he likes, he says, “Oh, Mommy, you should definitely get that.”
Yes, he’s also an enabler. Among his other skills, he’s also my fashion photographer and helped me snap a few pictures of my Minecraft shoes.
Technically, they’re NOT Minecraft shoes. These are the ABBY Slip-On shoes from Zee Alexis.
Zee Alexis contacted me and asked me if I was interested in reviewing some of the woven shoes they’re known for. Well, that makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop but I tried to go outside my comfort zone (in terms of style).
Summer is usually strictly sandal territory for me but I had been loving my Converse Low Tops in the spring and liked that the ABBY Slip-Ons had a similar style. Without looking too closely, I loved the green earthy vibes in this pattern and didn’t even realize it was Camo.
I guess I should have realized that when I saw the name: ABBY Camo Multi Slip-On.
When they arrived, I was so pleased with the fit and style and felt I could dress it up or down. Yes, I could even wear them with a skirt.
As with any shoe, especially those that you’ve only seen online, there are some pros and cons.
They have full foot coverage on top. This means that you don’t have to worry about the tops of your foot getting sunburned but they also come up close to the ankle.
The footbed has a leather-like memory foam insole which makes them very comfortable to wear with or without socks. But if you do wear them without socks, be careful pulling them off your feet as you may tend to bring that insole out of the shoe with you (it easily slides back into place).
It’s a heel buster. If you have sensitive heels like mine, you’ll need to toughen up a little or wear very short socks to avoid that ankle rub. There is definitely a breaking in period.
But the overall positive of the shoes? They’re cute, comfortable, and all the kids in the neighborhood say they look like Minecraft shoes.
If you have a kid that’s fallen into the Minecraft phenomenon, you’ll know exactly what I mean. If not, just expect to be popular with the kids when you wear them out and about.
Zee Alexis sent me a complimentary pair of ABBY Camo Multi Slip-On shoes to review. The ARV is $76.00. All opinions are my own.
