HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
If you are a mom, this is your day. Enjoy it to the fullest. I usually like to spend my Mother’s Day with my family and appreciating all the people that make me proud to be a mom. This year, I’ve asked my husband if I can just be lazy in bed. I can’t sleep in. No one will really let me. But if I could just laze about, I’d be happy. And I’d like to laze with a little quiet. After this post, you’ll know why.

I know you probably think I’m going to write about random thoughts in my head swirling about. Nope. I’m really going to write about the NOISE.
We headed up to the DC area this weekend to just check out the area and figure out where we might possibly want to live. I’ve found lots of beautiful areas. Gorgeous rolling hills and trees. But out in the middle of nowhere. My main requirement? I need to be no more than 10 minutes from a major grocery store.
That’s beside the point.
My main point is that we’re staying for a few days with my sister in Baltimore. (Do not think this is an invitation to rob my house. I have a vicious cat on duty). My sister *should* have a pretty quiet house. She’s been married for a long time now and has no kids. No dogs. Just 2 crazy cats.
However, my mom and my nephew live a block away. And my brother lives upstairs. And this family can talk. A lot. Even though most of us in the household spend our time visiting on some sort of electronic device (yes – I finally get to show off my Nintendo 3DS to people who are really impressed), it always just so loud.
I’m one of those people who needs quiet. Craves quiet (crazy that I became a mom). Here, the TV is always on. ALWAYS. And there are about a million LOUD conversations going on at the same time. In order to be heard I have to talk and keep talking until someone concedes that you have the floor and then shuts up.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to some sleep tonight. And maybe a little morning quiet time.

I need that quiet time too. When I go a couple of days without it (because my family is loud…and to be fair, I tend to be loud too) my nerves get short and snippy and it isn’t fun for anyone.
Happy Mother’s Day to you!
I’m totally loud too. And I talk nonstop. But when I’m done and ready for quiet, I just expect everybody to know that and either shut up or go away. Usually doesn’t work for me 😉
***happy, happy mother’s day, fadra. enjoy every minute.

I’m feeling sleepy. Veeerrrrrryyyyy sleeeeeeepy….
Ah yes … the noise. I know it well.
Sometimes the quiet is hiding from the noise. Try looking for it in the basement. Or behind the garage. Or hiding in the back of the empty van in the driveway.
My quiet usually is waiting for me with a glass of wine!
We don’t have a basement so I usually just need to “take the dog for a walk.” That’s truly my favorite quiet time.
This is how it is when I visit my own family…it’s always so loud and bright. The TV’s are on, the lights are on, the conversations are going, going, going. When I leave I always need a little time to decompress!
That’s me too. Sometimes it’s fun to be in such a full house but then I need to have some quiet time to myself.
Happy Mother’s Day! I too need sllleeeeepppp!
I stillllllll neeeeeeeeeeed sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeppppppppp!
2 things –
First, when we looked for our current house, which was in a mountaneous, remote area, my requirement was that the ice cream I bought could not melt on the way home (I despise, hate melted ice cream!), so I totally get the 10 minute grocery requirement.
Second, although I can stand the type of noise that you are referring to for about an hour, I too need to have “quiet” to feel good about myself. Otherwise, I can totally feel my whole mood just darkening, getting depressed, and my trigger for snapping at someone gets automatically shorter the longer I’m in that noisy situation.
Here’s to some quiet for you and Happy Mother’s day!
I actually got a little bit of quiet! But spent most of the day looking at rural areas that WEREN’T 10 minutes away from a grocery store.
We have a long car ride home today so maybe I’ll get some quiet tomorrow 🙂
I HATE when the tv is on all the time. It drives me bananas. like, I read about the tv being on all the time, and got all ragey and had to focus really hard to get to the end of the post bc I just wanted to tell you that I hate when the tv is on all the time.
=)
HA! I was trying to write a post last night and the TV was on. And I finally got sucked in and I could not stop watching. It was like seeing TV for the first time. And it took me about an hour to write the last sentence of the post. CURSE YOU, TV!
so did you get the quiet you were hoping for?? My parents are always going on about how loud my house is, and I just want to answer – hey, find me a house with kids under 12 that ISN’T loud!!
So I’m completely with you on just wanting peace. Peace, and a nap. Happy Mother’s Day in the M to the D, anyway. 🙂
My house is usually quiet because I have ONE kid who is 4. So hearing him loud and having fun is great. But as for the adults? Sometimes I just want to tell them to shut up. I mean, be quiet.
It’s never quiet at my house. Even at night it’s not quiet. There’s snoring and talking and grinding of teeth. I’m never alone, and it’s never quiet. *sigh*
My favorite time of the day is when everyone is in bed and I’m downstairs by myself and I can’t hear anything except the tapping of my fingers on the keyboard. Put a glass of wine beside me and I’m in heaven.
